Shifter Trim

I tried every search variation I could to find an answer to this, but obviously wasn't successful. When I was replacing my defective Bose HU in my 02 GLE, I made the mistake of resting the metal bracket that holds the HU in place on my shifter trim a few times, and now it's all scratched up. Has anybody replaced this trim, or tried painting it? If so, how hard is it to remove? It's not that big of a deal, but it's one of the only flaws that I see on the interior of my car and it kind of bothers me.

very easy to remove, open the ash tray and slide out the dispenser, inside, unscrew the philips screw, then pop the trim around the shifter and unhook the 12 volt power supply.

you car also sand it down with 400 grit then 600 grit paper and water.
dry.
primer.
paint.
clear coat.

hold on...you have to remove that piece to get to the bottom screws on the HU...you should already know how to take it off

I think he means the silver piece around the shifter.

My bad I should have explained it better. Yea I am not talking about the "wood" trim, I'm talking about the silver plate thing that actually goes around the shifter ****. I'm guessing this is what nsnrider is talking about?

lol when I made that same mistake (rushing) I couldn't get the silver part off without risking breaking it (or so I thought).

Black leather boot FTW. Looks better anyway with Momo ****.

I'm definitely not putting a leather boot on an automatic. I guess I will just stick with the scratched thing...

...But you WILL put a giant-azz tailpipe on one.

jk

Seriously, I wouldn't have either, but I was convinced that thing was going to snap into at least two pieces.

Let me know if you have any luck and what you did.

That "giant-azz tailpipe" is a Greddy Evo2 catback. As far as I know, putting an exhaust on an automatic is no different than putting one on a manual. Like I said, I think I'm just gonna leave it the way it is unless I can actually get directions on how to get the b*tch off.

If you buy a shifter it comes with it. I've never seen one off by it self, I don't think it can be removed.
