Does anyone knows why the Max engine races at start up, this happens when the engine is cold, it shoots up to 3-4K rpm than goes back to 1k rpm.

 

It is normal.... I don't remember mine going up to like 4k rpm, but it does go up to between 2k and 3k rpm....

 

As long as it settles down after a second or two then you're fine. Higher idle speeds at start up, helps get the Cats warm quicker.

 

You sure it goes up to 4k? you sure you aint by accidently gas-ing it while you start the car?

 

Mine will do this too if the car has been sitting for more than a few days or if the morning is colder than usual.

 

Mine only goes to about 2200 on start up. No matter what temp it is, but that's probably cause it sits in a heated garage

Well I heard that the reason that happens is because the EGR is open and it's recirculating exhaust back in so that the engine r cat heat up faster or something like that. In other words its normal to have it shoot up to 2500 or 2000 rpms cause mine does that too and after like a minute it goes to 1000rpms and below.

 

4000? is that a mistake?
