Did someone say that they found out the man oil consumption on the VQ35 is because of the rear valve cover? Just wondering my wifes car is using up 2 quarts every oil change. Also noticed some oil on the bottom side of the car. Everyting around the oil pan seems tight.

Bad rear cover can be a problem but usually not that excessive.

How often do you change the oil? If you use synthetic and change it every 6000-7500 miles, then your oil consumption isn't too bad. If you use dino oil and change it every 3000, then it isnt bad enough to foul plugs but enough to be an inconvenience. Once you get to oil consumption more than a quart every 1000 miles then you do tend to get oil fouling on the plugs and driveability issues.

i'm loosing oil like many others with 3.5's.. i'm gonna change the valve covers, but it probably won't help too much.. i just keep a quart of oil in the car, keep tabs on the level, and fill it up as needed.. no big deal to me really

Only one way to find out my friend. take your intake manifold off and see if your coil packs are oil soaked. If so you gotta replace the valve cover and gasket. I would recommend using 05 parts, they seemed to work a lil better for me.

3.5altman,

I don't know what it was, but I watched that clip in your sig at least 20 times lol. I wish I could hear it, what a great response by that guy. Most people just jump back, but this guy just instinctively reacted with a punch to the face. Priceless!

I discovered a ton of oil in one of the coilpacks when i went to change the sparks. After changing out the rear valve cover and gasket, my oil burning issue was not as severe as before. Get the valve cover for the 6th gen max though , its cheaper and the same thing.
