on the 00-01, the grill is part of the bumper. to remove it, you have to cut it out.

Cut the grille out? if i cut it i wont be able to put it back on. I was planning to repaint it but if i had to break it out then i would defenately go with the aftermarket grille. by the way would i be able to paint it while having it on?

As was said before to remove the 5th gen grill you do need to cut it out of the bumper. It is fully possible to paint the grill on the bumper (this is the only way to do it) but you just need to spend the time masking everything off.

And as a side note..REMOVE THE BUMPER FROM THE CAR..the whole overspray risk is NOT worth it (the plastic paint is very very sticky and easily sticks to anything)..there are 4 clips under the hood and 2 screws (1 in each wheel well) holding the bumper on so just take the time to remove them.

Last summer I painted my grill, I used Krylon outdoor paint (gloss black)
Even with a good clear coat the Canadian weather (winter) owned my paint job..the grill needs to be repainted again after getting mashed with salt and stone chips all winter. So while it doesnt take THAT long to paint the grill (its a weekend project) the longevity of this DIY job is kind of questionable.

Hi steven i have cut it out the grille with sharp knife and it came out to be a nice finish. The grille on ebay is $85 the picture is below i am just debating if i should go cheap route by going to home depot and buy a metal screen etc and paint it black or i should just spend 85 bucks and buy the billet aluminum grille off ebay. The seller says it comes with the hardware and it can be screwed to the OEM grille insert by unscrewing that so i wonder how easy it could be. Anyway do you know if i can get anything from home depot to cover that big front hole that i created?

I already cut it out without removing the bumper i painted it white last year but the paint never stay there for more than 6 months with highway driving conditions. I may buy a precut grille off ebay or will go to home depot to see what i can get to cover that ugly looking gap. I'll definitely use a metal, aluminum or steal material. Plastic is sucks.

I did cut the stock grille cause its a part of bumper, Now i have 02 maxima and i think 02 maxima grille is easy to remove and is not a part of bumper. Its a hassle to replace 01 grille so just leave it alone.
