Belt Replacement on 02 Maxima

Had Nissan replace my factory belts with OEM belts at 42K on my 02 Maxima. 6 yr warranty just ran out in March, go figure! FYI, they have never squeaked until the idiot mechanic put the new ones on. All was well, however the ****ing belts now squeal every now and then. Took it back, Nissan said they fixed the problem.

Fast forward 2 ****ing days later since I didn't drive it on Sunday, and yep the ****ing belts squeak even louder now. WTF? Called the stealership and they said to bring it back! Can these ****ing idiots tighten or replace a ****ing belt. They also said they are out of rental cars for a few days!

Stealership said it could be the wrong belts, WTF???? Losing my patience with these idiots. I called Nissan Consumer affairs and they are about worthless!

Thoughts?

Belt tightening / replacing is fairly easy on these cars. Replacement belts can be purchased at your local auto store for about 10$ or less. I would first try tightening the AC / alt belt, since it is the easiest.

BTW

- This section is not for specific maxima install questions. .................

Does that install really warrant the need for rental vehicles? Is it that long?

i see a lot of unreasonable expectations and anger over something easy to fix.

EDIT: just realized this was a couple days old...hopefully you have calmed down by now.

This is third flipping trip back to the dealer to fix the same damn thing. I have a right to be upset and I have a right to a dang rental, even thought its a POS Ford Focus.

The problem is CLUELESS technicians don;t have a clue what they are doing and Nissan Corporate could care less about my *****!

Screw Jim Bass Nissan, they are giving Nissan a bad name. More to follow! They just called and said they can;t duplicate the problem, un****ing real.

honestly...if you showed up at my dealership acting like this...you wouldnt get the best service.

and NNA has more important stuff than listening to every person upset at a dealership

Wow take a chill pill, tightening up the belt takes about 20 minutes max and 2 wrenches. Do it yourself. It's easy.

Look for the tentioner on the left side of the engine compartment. Grab a 14mm socket and a long extension loosen up the tentioner screw.

Get a 12mm box end wrench and loosen the pulley. Once it is loose then tighten down the tentioner screw until it's pretty tight. Tighten up the pulley and you should have a nice quiet car again.

If you have to get a new belt because the old one is glazed, I suggest the Goodyear Gatorback belt. They have a nice grip and will tolerate being loose.

so....you were upset...and blaming the dealership...when you were wrong about what the problem was...you blamed them for messing up the belt install nd that wasnt even the problem....

looks like the dealership and NNA were correct in blowing you off when you were rude to them

Then why didnt the idiot dealership tell me that one day flipping one. They didn;t have a clue for 3 days until I drove to the delaership and spoke with the 21 year old mechanic.

Rude my ***, the dealership is just clueless! I am getting a second look.

I'd recommend finding a good independent mechanic that specializes in japanese autos. Once the OEM warranty is up, there is no need to return to the dealership (except for recalls or CPU flashes). I found a good independent years ago and go to him for all my basic services.

This website will list reader/caller recommended independents in your area by car make:

yeah...im sure you were completely polite.....and not demanding at all.

if you act the way you indicate you are acting, you will never get good service...but of course, then you just blame the person that should have been nice to you.

keep this up...you wont get very far

these people arent perfect...it took them a week to figure out a problem i had...but i was understanding and polite without getting pushed round...they gave me a good price on the service and a rental that i wasnt expecting (and that they didnt have to give me)

Got a second opinion from a reputable mechanic in town, guess what, not a flipping thing is wrong with my Maxima. Unreal!

Glad I wasn't deployed and the dealer tried to sucker my wife into spending a $1K for nothing!
