PIAA decision

I'm looking to buy some H3 and H4 bulbs for my 2K1 SE. I'm a little confused, in that PIAA offers 3 different types of bulbs I'm interested in: Xtreme white, super white, and super plasma.

All three types have the same Wattage rating (60/55W & 55W). However, the Xtreme's output is 135/125W (H4) & 110W (H3)...wheras the Super's and Plasma's are 110/100W (H4) & 85W (H3).

Am I correct in saying that the Extremes will give you the best visibility? It seems the Plasmas and the Supers are the same bulb with the exception that the Plasmas have a blue low beam and the Supers don't.

Can someone verify that I should only get the Plasmas if I want the blue low beam. Otherwise, if I am only looking for maximum visibility and don't care whether or not my headlights are "blue", then I should buy the Extremes. Man...too many choices!! And I won't even mention the PIAA Ion Crystals!!! AGH!!

Thanks,

Tony

I got the Xtremes too. They are very bright, they almost seems birghter than stock. They are also as the name would imply very white. The stock fog look very yellow in comparison. I was afraid to get the bluish tint because some of those bulbs look pretty cheesy...depending on the car. Anyone have a Max with Plasmas?? How much did you pay for them?

I have the PIAA Super Plasma H4's...I got them because of the blue-ish tint HID low beam (3800K) and the SuperWhite high beam (5000K) combo. The blue tint isn't blue at all like others I've seen before. You can barely see the blue in them, which I liked...and the high beam is bright! I paid about $65 at www.autotoys.com

I put Plasmas in my girlfriend's Mazda Protege, very nice light purplish hue on the road. She says that when she's driving at night, the white lane markers are purplish. The look really nice up close and from a distance. She says her visibility has not diminished at all and has gotten better, but I can't vouch for that since I haven't driven her car since I put the bulbs in.

I have the super whites (PIAA Platinums I assume) in another car...they're okay, but not worth the extra money. They improved the brightness of the beam over the stock bulbs, but not worth the friggin $80 that I paid for them! I could hardly tell the difference. I would go with the Catz Galaxy Whites if you are more concerned about visibility rather than looks. Otherwise go with the plasmas, they are bright and extremely blue/purple.

I have the Catz Galaxy Whites (from Autobulbdepot.com) in my car and they give off a nice, extremely white light. The beam is ion/yellowish on the top and the bottom and bright white on the sides (or it could be the other way around, hard to tell, but it's definitely yellowish on two sides of the bulb and bright white on the other sides). Up close, it's has a nice clean, crisp, bluish/purplish color. From a distance, it's a clean, bright yellowish color. I guess it all depends on the angle you catch the beam at. Definitely worth the price (like I said, cheaper than PIAA). The bulb has a gold/silver metallic coat on the whole bulb (PIAA Plasma has half metallic coat from tip of bulb to halfway down the bulb) that is very cool looking.

I got my Xtremes for $55.00 at a local shop in San Diego called Off Road Wherehouse. I don't think they have a web site but they are on the PIAA dealer list. This is cheaper than anyplace I could find on line

They have the full line of bulbs and lamps. I went to the one on Balboa Ave. in San Diego (Kearney Mesa). The cheapest I found them online was $65.

I know where it's at...THANKS!!!
I like them a lot. I don't think they're ricey. They're not ricey blue...they have a hint of purple, close to the HID's. The lows are 3800K and the highs are a bright 5000K.
