Struts? Shocks? Springs! Help - Still confused
I've been reading as much as i can based on what the search came up with but i'm still confused by this topic. Hopefully someone can help clarify this.
I have an all stock car. I want to lower it a bit, perhaps 1.5" or so because i feel it's too high (4x4 as you guys would make fun of it hehehe).
What exactly do i need to do that? a strut? shock? spring? coil-over? I'm confused exactly what each thing does and why you can have one thing but not the other.
I'd like to keep the ride quality the same (as far as SE trims go) and not spend a lot to do this.
If you also have a suggestion on a good package to get that would be awesome.
Thanks.
- Mike
P.S. I have another question, if i lower my car to the specified height posted above, would i have to "recalibrate" my headlights?

If you want to retain stock ride characteristics and drop it about 1.5" then, go with either H&R springs or Eibachs. Eibachs may be a little stiffer, but H&R ride like stock. Both will drop you about 1.5" (Eibach are 1.3" I think). As for struts, you can either go with Koni, Tokico, or KYB AGX. I am personally going to go with Eibach + KYB AGX... as for the headlights, you should probably aim therm up a little bit after the lowering.

So basically i would need just two then right? A strut/spring combo?
what about Coilovers? how does that differ from the above set-up? and am i right to say that strut = shocks?

Yes, strut = shock...sold by pairs (2 Fronts or 2 Rears).
Springs are sold by the set (4).
If you want to keep the "stock feel", coil-overs are not what you want. These will totally eliminate any stock feel. They can be extremely stiff and you will feel every bump and imperfection in the road...but it'll be like riding on rails!
