hello i have a 2k with total 2k3 conversion so i have the 2k3 heads with 6k bulbs and a 6k hid fog kit to match. love it, looks insane but i just bought girl a 95 max and want to do hid upgrade for her.
found 50watt hid kit in group buy section, low beam only to buy but only question is does the light or color get distorted going through the glass lense?
my 2k3 6k shines straight through as im sure most are familiar with, so i get the true color and shine of the beam.
just curious and wondering if i should go with 6k on hers or 4300. def dont want it to look "hooked" up and too blue. the only reason i even think that is because ive never seen a hid bulb in a fixure originally designed for a halagen. so im just guessing.
what do you guys think? thanks for any help in advance.

I looked at real life photos for a week trying to decide. And your write it seems the headlight housing does play a part in the beam color. In the end i decided to just play it safe and go with 5k. If you think about it, if you chance it and they do come out EXTRA BLUE your gonna have to drive around like that for a while till you order new bulbs haha.
I have the single beam 50 watt kit you speak of from Jay on the org. Cant beat the warranty.

Psst. This is the 4th gen forums. Otherwise, when I installed my 10000K my friend's father gave me, my driver side (new housing) was crystal clear while my passenger side (slightly yellow) had some distortion. Not that noticeable though...
The 95-96 headlights have lines in the lenses. I would imagine it would change the output a bit, but since your throwing HIDS in a refelective housing the light will be scattered all over the place anyways so it shouldnt really matter.
^^lol mod pwnage
but dont do HIDs in the stock 4th gen housings, the glare will be horrific, do either projectors, or try some cefiros and put HIDs in there it will reduce the glare tremendously

6k shouldn't look too blue... ask for some pictures from whatever company you're thinking about buying from.. i've seen lots of 4th gens with HIDs in them that look fine... 4th gens have glass lenses though? i thought they were plastic...
6000k bulbs aren't too bad, a decent color/output combo...but not quite as good as 4300k/5000k.
6000k H4 Bi-Xenon kit

The only reason the light is on the ground is because the car is at an angle

Hi beams
The 95-96 headlights are glass, the 97-99 heads are clear plastic.
97-99 = Clear plastic with complex reflector
Cefiro with HID's SUCK MONKEY *****! Mine kit came with a shield...but it still throws the light everywhere BUT the road.

They have sheilds yes, but the sheilds and housings were designed to be refective for halogen bulbs.

did u aim those lights too, the light output is terrible but after i put hids in it the output was better than the stock lenses with halogen. the only way to really go is projectors
just no HIDs in the stock 4th gen housing:
well thanks to those who actually took the time to read my whole post. i only briefly spoke of my 2k with 2k3 hids to indicate that i know what the color of 6k looks like and really like it and more importantly, my girlfriend does. But my concern that the 2k3 housings are very diff from the glass 95 housing and i was worried how they would perform in a housing designed for a halagen bulb.
and hummm, i think im just going to go for it. the whole car is super clean with only 65k on her (less than my 2k has!) so the lights are nice and clear, no haze or yellowing at all.
i dont want to spend an arm and a leg on these as i already bought the car. although my 2k3 fog lights are smaller, they too are glass and designed for halagen and yet with the 6k bulbs in them look good but more blue than the headlights with the same 6k rateing, so maybe ill go with the 5k just to be safe.
thanks you for all the imput. one more question, to get a high and low beam kit, is it just the bulb with two filaments on it that dictates that? or is it a totally diff kit/wireing process? thanks again pat

Your going to really regret putting HIDs in the Maximas headlights Im thinking. You will get the color you want, but the light is going to be everywhere and is going to upset a lot of people.

you are right, i was concidering everything including beam pattern, as they tend to shoot everywhere in my glass 2k3 fogs. but only being 35 watt and so close to the ground.........not too bad. i would agree with you but i have never seen these in person and was just relying on orgers experience to let me know. some say it will be fine as above and they have seen many that look good while others like your self say no bueno. thanks for the opinion and just common sence on my part, not experience, i agree with you.
i really go out of my way to make my mods look classy and almost stock, like it came that way, not ricey or like a little kid owns it.
how about any halagen colored lights?
i used to use piaa plasma extreme in my 2k fogs before i changed to newer front bumper and to be honest liked them more than the hid kit. was a great color output and SUBTLE not so bright as hid kit is. even though my heads and fogs are both 6k and fogs are only 35watt and the h3c, small bulbs, they are brighter. but of course the down side of piaas, they needed changing once a year.
so what do you guys think? any nice colored, non rice looking halagen bulbs that you know of? i know many had to experiment with these as only recently the hid kits have become so much cheaper. she really loves mine and we all know you cant get that without serious money and modding but maybe just something to keep her quite. lol
shhh dont tell but i payed 3 something for just my fog kit, but it was four years ago when it was one of only a few that had small h3c bulbs that you didnt have to cut your housings up to install.
thanks again

sure as hell seems like it belongs in the 4th gen forum
