2k1 controls different than 2k2?

i'm as sick as anyone of hearing about the damn stereo steering wheel controls, but...
is their any reason to fear putting in an adapter that says it will work for a 2k1 max into a 2k2 max--the stereo place said it would be a good idea to wait till PAC came out with an adapter for a 2k2 max--is there any difference between the two controls(2k1 vs. 2k2), PAC says it'll work fine, Nissan says "don't do it man"(even if I had a 2k1), and Car Toys says it could cause a short--what do you guys think? is it worth the risk, or is it even a risk at all?
thanks,
matt

Start looking here. Do a search I think it worked for someone else with a 2K2 or was it 2K1.
