what's HLSD I read of and how do I know I have it? I bought it 2nd handed and I've researched the VIN and doesn't appear to tell

Hmm.. anyone have pictures of the different pedals to compare. I'm sure I dont have LSD b/c I've got lovely torque steer. But there may have been a time or two before I got new tires that both tires contributed to a smoky burnout....

I agree w/ sooner on this one. When someone asks a question like this, they deserve it. It is a simple search and check of VIN plate. The only sure-tell way to know.

 

 

Thanks! and Yup.. I have those pedals too.. although the rubber is missing off of the throttle pedal. The car was leased before I bought it and nothing was done to it.. but im still convinced I dont have a LSD. If so, why would I get the torque steer??

 

Check the VIN plate for further verification ( A vs H) And FTR, an open diff can leave 2 marks too.

 

i dont know... but now that i think about it, i don't really get torque steer, and i get on it in 1st gear if i do, it's very minimal.. i'll take notice to that today

do you have the titanium edition (does your console look like mine with the silver trim, do you have rims with the chrome finish, and the "maxima" chrome door sills)? if so, i'm pretty sure all TEs came with HLSD

 

I still don't understand why people think that LSD is good for 'off the line'. I've never seen anyone get better 60's w/ an LSD vs open diffs. Autox, yes. It's only good for cornering so you do not annihilate your inner wheel when accelerating hard from a turn, and of course in bad weather.


If it were true, all of us w/ open diffs would be running around in circles all day long, getting nowhere.

 

Not a titanium Edition. Just a 2002SE with those aluminum pedals, torque steer, and two tire burnouts.
I really noticed the torque steer when I got the car, and the occasional person I allow to drive it notices, but I've just become used to it and don't notice it anymore.

 

Torque steer = unequal shafts.

 

Drive a car that makes a good amount of power and has an open diff, then drive the same (read similar) car with an LSD and you will see that it makes a difference off the line.


Lets say you have a car making 400whp and 400wtq and you stab the gas from a dead stop. You think that all that power going to one tire kind of just pulling the other along is going to gain traction and stop "spinning" that one tire just the same as if the power were being put down to both tires? No, the car with the LSD is going to regain traction faster resulting in a better "off the line" experience/time whatever you want to say. The reason for thie is that the same amount of power that the open diff is putting to one wheel is being split equally between both wheels in the car with an LSD.

 

kinda like AWD off the line. . .

 

my "one-wheel-wonder" does a two wheel burnout in the waterbox just about everytime. i also pull better 60's than most do with their HLSD and im on stock tires with 50k or so on them

 

ok that's in the waterbox.... and If you pull a better 60 then you are aither a superior driver or they just flat out suck.
