Driving me nuts hearing my brakes grind when I knew I had a lot of pad left. I went ahead and bought some new ProStop Ceramic pads (had them on my 626, great pads) at Pep Boys. Pulled off the old pads and this is what I found on the right front:



It appears whatever metallic material used was causing some very light grooving in the pad itself-you should be able to see it in the top part of the pad. Didn't seen any problems with the rotors.

No idea who made the pads on the car, they have an "AM" stamped on them. Anyway, I bedded in the new brakes and stopping is now grind free.

 

I hope you got you rotors turned while you were at it, otherwise your new pads will turn out the same way...

 

Rotors looked fine, just cross-hatched them with some 400 grit.

I think the pads were defective, saw some light cracking too. I don't brake hard either.

 

yeah...when i replaced my pads, i just replaced the rotors too...i had a terrible groove in the rotors

 

No grooves but you have to love how easy it is to replace the rotors if you have to.

 

and OEM replacement rotors are cheap...and look so much better

zinc plated FTW. My brakes still look like that after 45k miles.

 

i didn't know OEM replacements were zinc plated! i thought just aftermarket rotors were.. where did you get those... not the stealer right?

 

I painted the hub area of all 8 of my rotors (yes, 8: 4 on the car, 4 spares ready to go) with black hi-temp spray paint. Cut out a template from cardboard, degreased and acetone'd the hub areas, and sprayed 'em.

One of my brakes is making that grind. Will check it out!

I just replaced all 4 of my rotors with Brembo blanks about a week ago, as well as replaced OEM pads with Hawk HPS. After only a couple days of rain, my new shiny rotors became bright orange around the hub with rust...WTF? Is there anything I can do to fix this before it gets worse, and to prevent it in the future? I might have to try what AJ~ did...any easier solutions?

 

Why are your struts blue?

 

Yes....drive your car around. When you apply the brakes a few times, the rust from the rain will go away.

yeah, i had the exact same issue when i got my brembo rotors.. i was pissed! i think i even posted a thread about it... but short of painting them, there's not much you can do... to prevent that in the future, get a set of zinc plated rotors.. they will not rust

 

I don't mean on the actual part where the pads touch, I mean on the hub part.

I was asking because I thought he had Illuminas.

thats why i used high temp paint on everything that the pads wouldnt touch
