Hi,

I have acquired a Momo F-16 shifter **** and wish to replace the stock shifter **** on my manual transmission 2000 Maxima SE with this ****. However, the stock **** seems to be glued on to the gear stick. Any ideas on how I can get the stock **** off the gear stick so that I can put the Momo on?

I am afraid to use the brute force method incase I do damage to the gearshift. If someone has successfully removed the stock **** on the 2000SE, please post your experiences.

Thanks in advance.

Get a short throw while you are at it!

If I was going to change the stick....I would change the shifter throw as well. I head that you can get a strap wrench at a local hardware store...pretty cheap

I had the same problem with my shift ****. I bought a RAZO alluminum shifter with carbon fiber trim. It looked great in the box and I was eager to put it on my 2K Max. Well, easier said than done. I could not get the factory shifter off. I tried endlessly and with the help of some friends, i still had no luck. I tried a handheld vice grip with a towel wrapped around the shifter with no results. I finally gave up on it. Recently i went to Stillen(I live in Socal) to have a rear sway bar and front tower brace installed. I asked them to insatll the shifter for which they did. If i was paying $78 an hour for labor for the suspension work, the least they could do was install my RAZO shifter. It looks great in the car. I know this does not help you, but I thought Id share my story.

Thank you all for your replies.

I bought a pipe wrench from Sears and tried on several occasions to get the shift **** off with no success. Then yesterday, when I was waiting for my wife in the car, I tried once again out of sheer boredom and this time success! Basically, I used some extra elbow grease (I had previously been afraid to use too much strength lest I should damage the shift stick) and the shift **** twisted right off (counter-clockwise). The new shift **** looks
_much_ better!

Regards,
--Ravi.

The Mechanics at the Nissan dealership where I live used an Oil filter wrench to get it off. One tug and it came right off.
