Factory Alarm randomly going off

This morning I was woken up by my Max's factory alarm going off outside (which has literally never been triggered before today) - I figured I'd just rolled over onto my keys, but then realized that my keys were about 10 feet away on my desk. Over the course of the morning the alarm has gone off about a half dozen other times, and it seems mostly random and has nothing to do with the key fob being in my pocket or on a counter - it's just random. The only thing that stops the alarm is if the car is unlocked - but that's obviously not the solution I'll want to stick with ultimately. I thought it might be one of the other three fobs in the house, but later in the day when I was walking out of the grocery store it was going off again, so I think I can rule those out as well. It is possible that the fob on my main keyring is the culprit, but other than that, is there anything else that would cause the alarm to go off randomly?

I haven't made any modifications to the car and I can't figure out any other reason it might be going off.

this is odd...Ive never heard of this happening before....

only thing i can suggest, is take the battery out of the keyfob after you lock your doors to see if its at least even remotely KEYFOB related...

dont know how useful it'll be but its worth a shot

This happened to me TWICE before, but finally figured out what it was..... the alarm was going off like every few mins and i kept running to the window and turning it off with the FOB, until finally i got pissed and went outside..... The first time this happended i discoved the inside MAP/DOME light was on, i turned it off closed the door and it didn't go off again!! The second time this happened (a few months later, and i knew to go outside and check this time) it was the passenger side vanity mirror, it was open and light was on. I closed it/light off and it didn't go off again.

I just went out and checked the interior dome, map, and vanity lights, none were left on. I also left all (4) fobs over a mile away at a friend's house and brought home only the master key - the alarm still goes off ~ every 15-30 minutes if I leave the car locked. Any other ideas?

I had a similar problem, When i got my car It already Had a After market Alarm on it. For about 4 months i only used my after market alarm key, I would lock/ unlock it with that. Then one day when i was on vacation i unlocked my car with the remote and my factory alarm went off, It wouldn't stop because i didn't have the factory remote to stop it. I could lock and unlock the car but the factory alarm would go off. I had to pull a fuse to stop it. Now i have to unlock my car through both factory and after market remotes. It's pretty annoying when you unlock one and the other goes off.

i had a problem like this and found out it was from a bad ground. i have also heard it could be from a bad battery or alternator have you checked those ?

i wonder if a door lock is getting stuck between the lock and unlock positon and setting your alarm off ?

Get in your car and lock the doors with the remote. Now check and see if all the doors are FULLY locked. If one isn't locking all the way it can cause this. Also check the switch under the hood. Might be going bad.

Sorry to bring this back, but a couple people have PM'd me to see if I ever figured out what was causing the issue.

So, I have no idea why, but the day after mine started going off randomly, it stopped. I think it was a faulty key fob panic button or possibly a door or the trunk not fully closed.

if it's not closed, when you press the lock button, the signel lights won't flash.

First post!!!

Reviving this thread....my car is doing the same thing. Fuses are fine and no lights are on in the car. new batt in fob.
battery is fine....did not check charge from the ALT.
This started 2-3 mos ago.....at night. I parked the car in the driveway the night it started......thought someone was trying to break in.

Have no clue what this could be...

i have seen on a few occasions those key fobs dending a signal out (panic button) That used to explain windows down all the way while having the car parked overnight. SO i would isolate one remote at a time having it away from your house.
You can try tapping it against the dash and see if it sends signal

I seem to have just experienced a similar problem. Here's a few more details. was just woken up to alarm/horn going off. Used the keyfob to turn it off but after a few seconds, the alarm would restart sounding off. I go to the car and realize not only is the horn/alarm going off, but the door locks are engaging and disengaging. At this point, try to start the car (in between a keyfob alarm 'off' command and the alarm re-starting otherwise the alarm engine disable engages) and once the car's on...the alarm horn does stop blaring however the door locks continue to alternate between locking and unlocking. Ended up just unplugging the ground for now but i'll check fuses in the morning as well as the other things mentioned in this thread. Any other thoughts or advice is appreciated.

Sorry to the OP if I hijacked this thread but I feel there are some similarities in our problem.

Is there any way to disable the alarm? A certain fuse maybe? I bought the car without keyfobs, programmed a fob that I got off eBay, but if I sit inside the car, hit lock on the keyfob then manually unlock a door and open it, I don't hear anything at all. When the alarm activates, is it just the horns going off or an actual siren too?

If you open the door from the inside, the alarm does not go off, you have to open the door with an outside handle to trigger the alarm. The stock alarm does not have a siren. When you press the lock button on the key fob, the hazard lights flash twice and the horn may beep if you have that feature turned on.

Thanks for the info. But actually I figured out that the problem is you have to wait ~ 20 seconds after you hit lock on the keyfob for the alarm to actually activate. Once the security light starts to blink from a solid red, then the alarm is activated & the open-the-door test successfully triggers the alarm.

PS: You can do it from the inside.

My wild guess is the battery. My car use to go off when the battery was running low as an indicator to change the battery.

+1 on the dome light. Figured this out on a business trip about a month ago. Here's my facebook status which discusses it:
Ok. I'm curled up in bed so I can wake up at 4 tomorrow for a meeting. I'm almost asleep... and some jackass' car alarm starts going off. I hate that. And I stew about it in bed hoping bad things on that person. I fantasize about every resident in the hotel standing in line with a chance to beat the owner of the car with a sockful of sweet Valencia oranges. Finally I get up to see which car I'm going to kick on the way out tomorrow. Ah. Its that black one down there. Looks like an Infiniti of some sort. Green license plates. Hmm. Those oranges are going to hurt, aren't they....
