Illumina Piston Rod nut torque
Illumina Piston Rod nut torque
Does anyone know what the piston rod nut torque is for the Tokico illuminas for a 5.5 gen? The housecor guide has a torque spec but says its for stock struts only. I don't have any documentation for the illuminas and last time I called Tokico, they didn't have any documentation to provide.
Also, I installed Eibach springs this weekend and the front end is a bit noisy. I think its just the spring rubbing against the spring perches, but I wanted to know if a bit of noise every now and then is normal. Edit: noise sometimes occurs when the wheel is turned full lock, or during a large bump.
Thanks.

I believe it's the same as for stock struts. Here is a link to the torque specs for pretty much anything that is suspension-related:

nah, a bit of noise every now and then isnt normal. i would take another look at it. make sure you dont have any spare parts. edit: when i did mine i didnt use a torque spec. im not saying thats the right way but im sure more have done it without problems you know
Found them. Here are the torque specs that came with the illuminas.

If you want the rest of the instructions, I got them here:

I'll loosen and retorque the nuts.

I retorqued the piston rod nut bolt and the 3 strut tower bolts to the specifications given and I still occasionally get a groan or moaning sound when turning the wheels full lock. I think its either the spring rubbing against the perch or the upper perch rubbing against the upper mount. What do you guys think?

Also, you mentioned you get noise with your wheels turned. Did you replace the strut bearings? If you didn't, then maybe the springs get wound up when you turn, and let go on a bump making noise?
Does the sound occur on all settings? I get lots of noise in the front with my Illuminas set to 5, but it was pretty quiet when I tried setting them to 2. In my case I think it's the strut mounts. I didn't replace them (big mistake), and my car does have high mileage.

If all these parts, bearings, strut mounts, etc should be replaced when changing shocks and struts, why wouldn't they make noises on the original suspension set up?
I just bought shocks, springs, and dust boots to put on my 02 max with 116k, and all these posts are making me consider buying up replacement top hats and what not, even thought I don't know whether the original ones will work.

Yeah the required torque is lower the the OEM strut assy stud. Do not use In impact wrench it will damage the selector mechanism inside the strut. Did you lube your Strut bearing with white lithium grease? I use this and it's still plentiful when I disassemble the struts testing different springs, isolators etc.
