Jet Performance Chip

Jet Performance Chip
Okay, this is the most important thread I've started so far. I thought there wasn't an ECU chip for the 5th gen Max, but I found one made by Jet Performance. Oddly, I purchased a chip from the same company for my '97 Ford Explorer. The Explorer always ran rough (irregular idle) and even rougher with the chip. I just attributed it to the fact that it was a Ford and left it at that. However, I was VERY happy with the h.p. increase it gave me. Also, according to Ford, it was the only performance mod that wouldn't affect my factory warranty. Weird.
I want to buy the chip for my 2K1 SE AE but I don't want to jeopardize my silky smooth engine or chance any other adverse side affects. Does anyone have any input on this? The Jet website (jetchip.com) claims 15+ horsepower for the Maxima. Right on!! If no one can site any problems or concerns then this will be my first mod. I'm extremely excited!!

Don't you find it odd that the guys who know Nissans in/out (JWT)can't do a chip for the newer maximas but JET can poop one out in 5 min? I JET is legit but I'm HIGHLY SUSPECT OF THEM. ie.. taking your money and just attaching a JET sticker on your ecu.

Well, if this is going to be your first mod, I would suggest you not get it. Intake and y-pipe should be the first things you do. From what I understand about the chip, it is programmed to certain parameters that are dependent on the mods you have already. Even after that, it still continues to be quite controversial. Some people say that it does absolutely nothing, while others say it helps a lot. Instead of arguing over who is correct, lets just leave it at being controversial. In any case, start with an intake of some sort and then do the y-pipe. You will be pleased with those two

Really? That's what the JWT unit would do also but can't because of the multiple ecu boards and codes for different cars. How did JET do it so fast?

however if you plan to go SC or NOS thats a bad idea..
they are promising 15 fwhp for $399

From previous posts it doesn't sound like there is an ECU mod that actually works. I think Road and Track actually did some research a couple years back on ECU mods. I think someone on the board actually posted the results. Try doing a search on it. But I think the articla said that some cars actually lost HP with the ECU mods. If you're gonna spend that type of money just go and get a VB Calibration. You won't gain HP but you will have better acceleration.
