00 Maxima making a screeching noise

Ok so today i turn my car on as normal turn key to ignition and it makes a really nasty screech till i let go of the key..
I already have a 1-2 ruff shift prob occurring (AT).
So do you guys think this whole thing could be tied to the tranny already acting funny? I just had it serviced like 800 miles ago and id think i have atleast 20,000 left to reflush tranny (i have 129k miles on this baby btw)

I did notice my engine oil looked kinda black and took it to a mec and got an estimate of $120 full engine flush/filter service is that a good price?

or should i just sell this baby already? i just dont want to sell since its such a beautiful and enjoyable car and has treated me pretty good through the years. and she was my first well i had an acura but she didnt count in my mind my maxima was the first.

should i just get a 05 and call it a day? or fix this thing up back to new/maybe new tranny even..?

it could be the alternator/alternator belt. how often does the screeching happen? is it everytime you start the car?

does the screech go away completely after it is started or does it still screech? mine makes a screeching noise when i start it, only when its cold. after she warms up she's quiet. probably just the belt...

could be the belt or the starter depending on how long the sound last from start.

sounds like a belt for the screeching.

does it by chance start screeching if you have your ac on or have your wheel turned all the way to either direction?

By the way $120 is way too much for an oil change. take it to jiffy lube or something like that if you dont want to do it yourself

I'd guess belt squeal as well. Sometimes power steering will squeal if low on fluid. Check levels of your fluids.

im just about 100% positive its just the belt squealing. my fluids are fine, and im guessing the starter is fine. the noise goes away after the car warms up. i had to put a starter in my truck and it had a noise that never went away until the starter finally went, then put a new starter in....

Cold start screeching could be the starter or the belts. If your starter hasn't been serviced and the belts are relatively new, then most probably it is the starter. I would try tightening the belts to begin with.

Now does the engine have enough oil. If you go low on oil it will take a lot more effort from the starter to turn the engine over.. Soon you will need a new one.

I had to service my sreeching starter at 60K miles. When I opened it it was full of dried up grease. Put in Mobil1 syn grease on the gears and till date starts like a charm (presently >150K miles).
