Can someone help me find the Shift solenoid test thread?

Been searching and cant find it.. I am getting a transgo kit installed Friday and I want them to test the solenoids while they're accessible.

Notes from another thread:

If your gonna do this mod you should really test the shift solenoids as they are prone to failure (there's a TSB on this). You are also going to have to adjust the trans brake band (2 1/2 turns from snug).

Shift solenoid test (post #21). You should also hear the solenoids click when you apply 12 volts to pins 1-5 as depicted in the link below.

Also, check to make sure your dropping resistor has a resistance of 10-15 ohms.

I was talking to a trans shop today about the solenoids and asked him if I could just do the resistance test. He said that is only half of it, the other half is measuring the pressure.

Dropping my car off on monday for a diagnostic. He's hooking up a pressure gauge and computer to my car and will drive it. Here's the details of my car: http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...d-bad-tcm.html

I'm in Cali so for labor its steep..... $437 for a full swap (VB drop, kit, install)_ minus parts/fluids which I supplied.. The shop is reputable so i''m ok with paying a premium.

I never had the issues you had with "103k - transmission has trouble catching 1-2 and 2-3 when on cold start and driving in neighborhood. The car repeatedly tries to catch the gears and keeps trying until it does while shaking the car - gears are not slammed. However, once the car is warmed up, if I push it hard it will slip on at least the 2-3 and slams once the rpm goes 500-1000 higher."

My car acts the same regardless of temperature just lacks power going uphill from a stop and RPM spikes when I slam it to the floor for a quick pass. I hate the slop in the tranny anyways, so if this fixes both issues i'll be very pleased.

Well, considering that Nissan wants $1200 for stock valve body, that is reasonable. Definitely considering getting the Transgo kit since my car shifts pretty soft on the 2-3 shift when it is cold, want to nip it in the bud before it turns into a flare.

I've put several shift kits into TH-350s but that is a transmission that you could find in wrecking yards for $100 or less if you messed something up-and considering how simple the shift kits were, that was pretty unlikely anyway.

A lot different when even a used transmission would run $600 and up and the kit is considerably more complex.

Let us know what you think after you get your car back.

Got the kit installed and drove around a bit testing the response. 1-2 has a slight jerk to it at all speeds... Cant say I like it, but its not sloppy overlap like before. I couldn't get the tranny to spike RPM's (yet), and the power uphill is much more linear whereas before it was gutless. 2-3 and 3-4 are perfect comfort wise with a very slight nudge. Downshifting to a stop is the same as stock. When I step on it, the gears rip through much quicker and more precise. I'm glad I didnt get the VB mod, because the 1-2 is already on the slight jerky side. I might end up looking to the Suprastick mod to boost the shift RPM a bit to avoid shifting at low speeds.

Thanks for the initial review.

Harsher 1-2 shifts are normal for shift kits, my Chevelle and Cutlass would chirp the tires at anything more than half throttle on upshifts after installing B&M Shift Kits.

Interesting observation on the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts, I noticed the same with shift kits too. Faster shifts and it felt a little like I was getting lightly bumped (or nudged) ahead.

Did you or your installer test the solenoids?
