Testing coil packs

I did a quick search but didn't find what I was looking for. Is there a how-to or anything on how to test the coil packs?

My maxi has a random hesitation and feels like something is holding it back. I have so far replaced the spark plugs, cleaned the MAF, replaced the air filter, ran seafoam in the gas and intake, and did an oil change. While it does seem to be running better, it is still not like it should be. It should be much faster than it is.

It has a check engine light code for a misfire and O2 sensor. I was told the O2 sensor code could be caused from the other issue.

Check the resistance between pins 2 and 3 of each coil, if you get infinite it's dead (which isn't likely given your symptoms). There's no specified resistance you should be looking for, it's the variance between all of the coils. If one has an exceedingly high or low resistance in comparison to the rest, try replacing it.

Is the code a P0300 or P030x? If the former, it's random/multiple misfire, if the second it clearly tells you the trouble cylinder.

It is code P0300.

I checked the resistance and all of them are within 4-10 of each other except 2 which are about 40 off.

When it's misfiring you can pull the coils one at a time if it gets worse that coil is good if its the same that's the bad coil.

It is not doing it on a regular basis, it is random while going down the road. The hesitation it has is consistant though under full throttle.

There are no reliable ways to check the coils. What i did with my 4th gen, I get one new coil and swapped one by one every coil with a new one till found the broken piece. Long term, though.

Has anyone purchased coils from ebay? Looking for feedback on them. Do not want to waist my time.

Well I am now fully lost on what the cars problem may have been. It seems to have fixed itself. It all of a sudden stopped missing and has full power under full throttle. I reset the computer and after 2 days and about 100 miles the check engine light has not yet returned.

While I am not complaining that it fixed itself... I am confused what the problem may have been. I am planning on taking this car on a long trip this weekend, so hopefully the problem does not return.
