Blacked out my Tails, looks kinda ghetto

Well I took ADMAN's advise and used that VHT Nite-shades paint and "blacked-out" my tails. The pic is in the attachment.

Looks either (A) Ghetto, (B) Wierd, (C) Ugly, or (D), no comment. I dont know which one of these I can pick but for now I think it looks Ghetto. Guess I will see wha the feedback is and how quickly I get used to it.

On a side note, these tails now cut out about 25% of the light output. So That is what is sort of ****ing me off, I think I need to get brighter bulbs. Anyone got suggestions on the brightest bulbs I can get for the parking/stop and turnsignals? Dont worry about wattage or burning out the harness, I will take care of that, just let me know where to get the bulbs from.

Here is a pic of the tail blacked out. It gives you a better idea of how black it is. I had taken it off and then painted it.

I think it looks nice on that chair. I think it looks good on the car too. I think for lights you might want PolarGs? With brighter lights I think it'd be pretty cool.

Dang...those are dark!
I was only going to do my sides...

So, how did the "stuff" work...all in all?

i like it myself ... think you now just need to do the sides as well then it will be finished. I give a thumbs up and don't think it looks bad at all. Wishing I had bought a black max now ... nah not really.

FYI:

when taking pictures the sun should be BEHIND you...
ESPECIALLY when taking pics of black on black...

you gotta eliminate those shadows...

maybe you should of just put a vinyl sticker over it to black them out, just in case you didn't like it. but personally i don't think they look that bad.

Looks good

I think it looks real good. I only tinted out the red semi-circle, and put a clear bulb in the signal to make that part look real white. Never had any problems with cops.
Peace

Hmmmmmmmmmm......

Dixit,

You should do the Side Markers. I might try this on my stock side-markers and see how it looks.

Not bad, but you better hope your SPOILER stop light is bright enough or else if you get rear ended they will try and blame it on you. Damn lawyers!

Do a write up.

Thanks.

P.S: Go UofA!

im with everyone else. i think it looks pretty cool. not ghetto. as far as the police are concerned, is there anything illegal about having blacked out tails as long as enough light can get through?

I think that it looks great! Where did you get the paint for it? Can you take pics of the brake lights, turning signals and reverse lights so we can se how much light shines through?

Nice!!

Wow BigDog you made them REALLY dark!

The way I did mine is you cannot see any red when you are far, but as you get closer you could just barely make out the red and white circle of the lights. This way when the brakes, turn signal, or reverse lights go on, it does not block out so much light.

Nice job though!
Why do you think it looks ghetto?

I dunno. I guess I'm a fuddy-duddy, but when I see black-outs it brings to mind every other Monte Carlo or Grand Am I see on the road here. I think the smoke lenses on the 2001 look really nice as they are...especially on a black Max. But, that's just my 2-cents.

Your taillights look great! Let us know what paint you used, I'll be the next to do this mod. Also, need to find out if it's legal.

The couch in your pic is more ghetto than anything

Well so far I have had TWO cops behind me, and none of them felt like pulling me over. I dont know why this is illegal when like the RX-7s had this same style coming from the factory. They had BLACK style lenses that produced RED when lit up.

EVEN the new S500s have them. They have LEDs for brake lights, but still, they are damn near black when looked at, and only light up red.

I dont know, I cant take the crap off now.

I had my tails just as dark on my max, liked the way it looked but i guess its just a matter of time before you run into the cop tht does care.i think the problem with spraying tails is the fact that now the back of your car has no reflectors of any kind.........oh and the longer you let it sit the harder it is to take off,i got cited for it and i had to wet sand it off, too harsh a chemical will ruin the plastic and nothign was working ........

Re: Wow!

SWEAT! How could you wonder if that looked good or not? Now you need to darken that tint a little to match. Try 5% all around and 35% titanium down wndshield. Still looks like normal glass from frt strip down, just cant see in. Ill have some pics soon. If you can risk a ticket with taillights that dark I think it would look great blacked out more.

Man I got no idea what I am gonna do when I get pulled over. It aint like I can peel this crap off, it is painted on.

The tint I got is 20% graphite mirror, front windshield gots 41% polarized tint, and the sunroof got 5% limo tint.
