They are two seperate issues.

P1456- Get a new fuel cap, if that doesn't clear it, further troubleshooting required, (cannister valve & vacuum valve)

Pinging- What type of gas are you using?

using 93 just changed plugs, had oil in rear plug. but don't think that would be causing the pinging. But just wanted to maek sure a damaged EVAP system can cause pinging.

I see no relation between the EVAP and the pinging.

Engine pinging is from predetonation in the cylinders.

Also, why were you driving around for a year with a code? Why haven't you gotten it fixed?

update so i need a new evap cansitor. but before i get it, i wanted to know if this can causing the pinging im getting at around 2000rpm. i dont want to spend the 200-300 on the cansitor if it is not related to my pinging issue, cuz i want to get that resolved first.

so far i have changed plugs to 1 step colder
changed oil and coolant
replaced air filter
ran a bottle of chevron

i always use 93 gas, what else can i try?

i had the 1456 code. took all the emmissions peices off to check and everything looked good. I didnt change the gas cap as didnt want to waste money before i knew what it was. did a smoke test at my fathers garage and found that the canister had a slight crack near the valve . My dad had a used one sitting around so i put it on and the code hasnt come back in 3 weeks. I would say dont get a new one. cal you local JY and see if there is a totalled max you can get one off of for 20 bucks. If it doesnt work just tell them and exchange it. as for the pinging all the evap does is recycle unburnt fuel and vapor. The ping i would say is from bad gas, carbon build up (which can make certain pieces get hotter than usual) on valves. Get a can of FI cleaner and see if that helps. i use 93. if i use 87 as i tried once to save money i get a very noticeable ping. switched back to 93 and no probs. also if you did the timing advance that may have casued it.

why did u got a step colder should have just went with stock platnium ngk plugs, if u are not boosted or spraying no need to get anything other than your oem ngk spark plugs, that might be your problem.are the plugs u put in are they even ngk or other brand???

this sounds like an air problem... check your air filter. next, i'd clean out your fuel system, pricey - but worth it. Sometimes when you run out of gas a few times, the pump and fuel lines build up w/ the grease and debris from the buttom of the fuel tank, and this sometimes causes the pinging.

if any of those don't work, go to Windows > RUN > CMD > in command prompt type in PING MYMAX <-- thats a joke!

but in reality, one of those should clear up the issue.

also, is the pinging harsh ? making the car vibrate ? could be a cylinder mis-fire.

i chanegd the air filter already, pinging is not harsh just annoying as hell. it between 1800-2000 during hard accelaration. I will try to get my injectors cleaned next i guess.

so no1 really thinks the evap canistor has anything to do with the pinging?

you can remove the canister completely.. all you'd get is a check engine light.
