How many of you guys are "Preventive Maintenance" owners? I have 118k on my 2K Auto SE, and I'm thinking about doing some preventive maintenence so she can last me past 200k.

222,100 miles. Got the maxima in Sept-2004 with 38,000.

Automatic Transmission repair/rebuild, twice!
Various things, here and there.

Engine still feels great but there is a power loss problem that I need to find and fix.

I thought I was going to hit 200k but engine died out about 153k, now 04 engine with about 70k on it but I think its all on how you service the engine, ny previous owner brother did not do frequent oil changes causes Cams looked all burnt and pistons a little......

New to the forums, been reading for years. My first car was an 85 SE maxima my parents bought brand new when i was born, that was my first car with 268,000+ on it, made it to about 300,000 and traded it, some guy still drives it almost 10 years later where my parents live. Stepped up to a 99 and drove t for 2 years and put over 100,00 on it, loved it. Drove an 02 with the 3.5, had to have it. Had my 02 since 2003 and going strong over 204,000 with only regular maintenace and a radiator bc my wife hit a recap a couple of years back

Im a very preventative maintenance type person. i read where people say "runs like new" and im very inclined to believe that. Mine has over 204,xxx and still "runs like new" to an extent. The one thing my car has really lost, is responsiveness, it still has plenty of power to pull hill, even accelerate up hills, and can still easily cruise any speed i want it to on the interstate. i got my 02 SE, and it was almost brand new. im not sure if i have gotten used to it, or its just lost a little bit or throttle response. it still has tons of get up, more than most. Hell, i can still white smoke the tires if i wanted im sure. to me it just seems like there is a small amount of power lost with the miles. I bought a G35 a couple of years back that has about 125,000 less miles, so maybe that car has made me think mine has lost power.

Anyway, back on topic, if you do regular up keep, your car will out last your will to keep it. at the amount of miles mine has, it still looks great, and drives like a much newer car. I have loads of people get in, compliment my borderline obcessive clean car, and then be in shock when the see the miles. I am inclined to think that the most reliable engine nissan has ever made was the later 3.0 litre in the 95-99 models. I have heard people saying that the first 2 years of the 3.5 (02,03 models) would occasionally have problems with burning oil. I have yet to have this, but i did have a leak in the gasket of my oil pan. All in all, take care of the Max, and it will take care of you. Promise you.

Just an update, power loss was being caused by clogged pre-cats. Feels better with two new nissan pre-cats on and I have reason to believe the main under floor cat needs to be swapped to get that like new power back.

I'm at 227,100 now, ugh.

210k on an 01 AE, and now the electrical problems start happening. Pops had a 91 Max go to 230k then all kinds of electrical shiat started messing up, not working, etc. It's been a good run.

My AE is just at 126k.... bought at 120 in May.... on the day that my Beloved Subie (2002 Legacy GT wagon) joined the 200k club!

Since then, I've put 5500 on the Max, and only about 1000 on the Subie. (That'll change when winter rolls in).

Speaking of electrical gremlins... three times now, I've found my Max LOCKED when I know I didn't lock it. Is this a feature of the alarm, or a sign of impending doom? (The keys were only inside for ONE of the three episodes... thank God the window was open!)

I've now got a transmission fluid leak, where transmission meets engine. Oil sending unit is also leaking oil. Probably had these problems most, if not all of 2011. 227,000

We've parked our '01 with just over 380,000 on it. The wife got a Honda Fit for her long commute. Unsure what we're going to do with the Maxima, though.

Now I am into 230,500. Do the transmission drain, pull the pan and re-fill. It's not very difficult, just pay attention to the order of the bolts.

Where-ever my 5th gen is, if it hasn't been wrecked by now it's certainly way over 200k (I owned it from 155k-165k back in 07).

I killed my 4th gen's motor with just a little over 200k

Ive got original motor and tranny,,, running at 199,648 at the moment but drive ALOT. end of the month will be over 200,000. finally doing the valve covers next weekend.

EDIT::: The old 97 was sold with 280,000 on it to a guy who apparently couldn't drive a manual very well. He has rebuilt the motor, and replaced tranny, 2 clutches, wheel bearing, and basically the front suspension. I thought that the clutch was going out on me when I sold it to him since it went out after about 2 weeks untill a month later he burnt out the 2nd clutch. lol

We've got a 99 Max that comes in for regular maintenance with over 350l last I seen...older couple that maintain it religiously and it looks as clean as it would've 12 years ago.

Used the cash we got from selling our son's Jetta to help put a new clutch in the Maxima this week.
