Help my tranny!!!

My wife was driving our 2000 maxima b4 and called me with the following. The odometer was not doing above 41 mph and it seemed as if the tranny would not shift into third gear. She said that the tacometer was going past 3000 rpm (It should shift by 4k i believe). I am going to take it in tommorrow but does anyone have any ideas what the problem is so I can know what to expect??

Your transmission slipped. Could be a number of issues.

Check the transmission fluid level and color, and figure when or if it was ever changed. If not the fluid it could be tcm, trans solenoid, or speed revolution sensor.

If you intend to DIY, do a search. There's alot of threads on the subject.

If you don't have the time and just want to get it fix, take it in to the dealership or a reputable auto shop.

did she have it in D ? or was it in 2 lol ..um..

provide some more details.. auto im assuming? i think u shuold drive the car and put your feedback up here.. does it shift from a start normally.. does it shift into 2ond normally?.. is there a power loss?.. is it freaking out at only the 3000rpm range? if that is the answer then your MAF (mass air flow) is what is broken, not your tranny,.. dont let the shop rob you.. a new maf is 80 bucks and can be put in, in 15 mins,.. oh and they prob wont be able to diagnose a bad MAF unless they are a good nissan tech and know about the common problems cuz u wont throw a code for this.. but thats just my .02 trying to help

edit: oh and what 808max said^^ very good answer too
