timing advance and cell question???

So my friend goes to the dealer to get his timing advance done and they tell him they can't do it because he has a cell. So now he wants to know if he can do the timing advance if he erases the codes and if the timing advance will still be workin if the cell comes back on?

Just get it to say you have it. There's a dyno on here that proves it gives a little bump. Find someone locally that has Cipher and have them do it for free. If anyone locally is 'into' modding later model Nissans, I'm sure they'll have a Cipher. Houston's big, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Lol! Abaut 3% of people in Houston are maxima enthusiasts. Everywhere I go to buy something they tell me why am I trying to mod a maxima. Or I didn't know they where fast. Or they are not ment for racing.

I never said Maxima specific. Anywhere from a versa to a Titan and everything in between, the Cipher will work, mmk?

1 - Find a friend who works at nissan
2 - Find another stealership?
3 - Buy consult?
4 - Fix CEL b4 modding? (or at least figure out why its on)

I was wondering how could I know if the timing has been advanced on my car?

Use a timing gun and align the peg with the dots on the pulley. Timing guns can be found for 50-100 bux. Use to be useful with distributed timing. Now its only useful for measuring as you need to have the timing changed in the ecm program.

I walked around back and offered $30 to one of the techs. He said I would have to talk to a service writer and I laughed cause it takes less than 5 min. Don't pay more than $50!

No need, when they go to advance it, it will show up on the consult. If it's not advanced it reads 15, fyi...most people bump it up to 17.

with autoenginuity it will sometimes refuse to advance the timing when there is CEL. But it depends on what the cell is for. I've advanced the timing on about 30 cars and every once in a while a CEL will cause it not to take. So maybe the consult 2 has this problem?
