It is, but you'd need a new engine control wiring harness, new ECU, new TCM, plus flexplate, TC, trans, trans mount, shifter assy, new rad with built in trans cooler (or an aftermarket cooler running alone), etc.
It's way too much to bother, honestly. Far more of a hassle than doing a 5MT swap.
What does that mean? Are you swapping because you feel the manual Maximas are too...'common'?

It's easy - just throw the transmission in there, along with the right axles, the sensors, the shifter, etc., etc.,...
But really - why? Go locally and buy one with an automatic already in it - they're a dime a dozen. The ones with manual transmissions are highly prized on this board, because most of the members here are driving enthusiasts. 99% of the transmission swaps discussed on this board are the other way around (either auto to stick or 5-speed to 6-speed), because it's more fun to drive a stick in most members' opinions.

I'm sure you could find someone with a AT maxima of similar year and mileage willing to trade with you. Less than 5% of Maximas are MT, IIRC, so it's a lot easier to just find one that isn't.
From what I've read in the 5th gen subforum, ~5% of A33Bs were 6MT. Far more than 5% of A33s/A32s/J30s and below were 5MT.
No such thing as a factory J30 5MT(at least not in the U.S.) I've had serious thoughts about doing a Z32TT/5MT swap into a J30, though. I just can't get past the Taurus trunk lid.
Yes, there were many factory J30 5MTs. Good luck with a VG30DETT in a J30 though

Wait, are you referring to the Infiniti J30? A33 == chassis code for 00-01 Maxima. A32 == chassis code for 95-99 Maxima. J30, logically, would be a chassis code as well, would it not? Not even mentioning that the Infiniti J30 is not a Maxima, which is the topic at hand.
I'm thinking 89-94 Maxima is an A31. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Yes, I was referring to the Infiniti J30 - Taurus trunk lid, rear wheel drive, VG30DE/automatic. I still really like the concept of the TT/5MT swap into one, but they're just so ugly!! My 8-year-old car-nut kid doesn't even like the way they look!
The Infiniti J30 has the chassis code Y32.
I got confused too - I was reading how A31 cefiros came with all sorts of trick stuff that the 3rd gen didnt (RWD, or ATTESA, and a RB motor), and I'm like "Hey i wonder how hard it would be to put it in a 3rd gen"
turns out that they're totally different cars, and A31 was never sold in the US.

This is the first time I've seen it asked this way. Most people want to how if an autotragic can be converted to a 6 speed.
