6 Speed tranny ???

Hey you guys... I've got a quick question... I have an 02 6-Speed (of course) and every once in a great while when i have been on the highway for a while... i get off the ramp like everybody has to and the car will not go back into the slot where 1st and 2nd gear sit... i mean i am in neutral and i can only access 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th... then i have to fiddle with the shifter till i can force the little bastard left in neutral so i can get back to 1st and 2nd... then its fine for a while.... THANKS GUYS

Im assuming your speed is too high getting off the highway to be getting into 2nd and ESPECIALLY 1st. Have you ever tried getting into first going 10mph? It wont happen.
Dont force the car into gear when it doesnt feel like. You will ruin your tranny

How many miles are on it? How fast are you traveling when you try to put it into 1st or 2nd?

no sorry for not making it clear guys... i know how to drive a stick ive been driving one for 5 years (i never put it in 1st unless im damn near stopped)... i mean i stop (completely) at the end of the off ramp and the stick wont go left in neutral to the space where i can throw it up into 1st or down into second

sounds like a typical bad synchro. when was the last time you changed your tranny fluid?

It's not a synchro, read the post again. He can't move the shifter to the left in the neutral position...

Check the shifter cables to see if they're binding on anything as well as the shifter linkage on the transmission (remove the airbox to access this)

And FYI you can get your car into first at any RPM as long as you rev match. (double clutch..)

my guess is the hitch pin may be broken where the shift rod and linkage meet

Happened to me too. Took me a while to figure out why I couldn't shift either.

I'm in this predicament now since I missed 3rd gear at the track on Friday. Accidentally, went into 1st and it was all down hill from there. It is extremely hard to get it into 2nd and reverse and cannot get it into 1st at all. Not sure what I broke or damaged yet.
