Strange problem with clock and stereo/cilmate lights

This has been going on for a while now when I have the headlights on.

My clock will flicker between the hour and minute display. Back and forth. It changes speed if I adjust the dimmer switch.

The display on my 6-disk Bose will only shine very brite or very dim based on how the dimmer switch is set. There's no in between. The backlit buttons on the stereo/climate control are all out no matter how the dimmer is set.

I tried swapping the dimmer switch from my wifes 00 GLE and it does the same thing. My switch in her car works fine.

I tried unpluging the clock and it has no affect on the other lights.

Once in a while the problem will go away for a short period of time but always comes back.

Some people claim increased light intensity for those items, especially so when the headlights are on, after grounding the alternator as part of a grounding kit. Not sure if you already have that (didn't see it among your mods in your sig).

I've had a grounding kit for a few years now. This has been happening for about two months. I think there's something else going on.

Got it. I'm not familiar with what you're experiencing. Not sure if they are related but I can suggest making sure that the bulbs on the climate control are not burned (I had to replace 2 on mine recently). I don't have any input on the flickering issue of your clock or the intensity on your Bose display. Hopefully someone will chime in.

i would suggest adding a ground wire to the center dash console area and see if that helps.

I know it doesn't sound like much but I work at the plant in Smyrna, I would suggest tracing the wire harness back to the point where it splits to the clock and the radio. You might find that a wire has been shot previously and covered up with some electrical tape....Not that we do that when we make a mistake.........

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I'm going to pull the stereo/climate control and check everything.

BTW, welcome to the Org.
