AT problems, goes into 2nd, how to get the codes?

Lately, my car has been giving me a bit of trouble. Sometimes, I'll be driving around, come to a stop and when I go to take off, I find that my AT has gone into 2nd (or 3rd, not sure) gear and I can't even manually select 1st. Restarting the car will clear the problem. Last winter, it did it to me once, I was going 55mph, punched the gas in the rain, spun the tires and the trans went into 2nd. But lately, it does it during normal driving.

Ever since I swapped my car over to 5.5gen drivetrain, my CHECK A/T light has blinked about 10 times at each startup. I have tried the manual way to get codes, but that doesn't work. And my OBD-II scanner doesn't access trans codes. So, how do I go about getting the codes? Will only the Nissan Consult 2 read the codes in the TCM?? I just hate having to go to the dealer, they know that I prob won't let them fix my car, since I obviously do most of my work myself. That causes me to be apprehensive about asking them to read the TCM codes, I don't know if they'll be honest with me, BS or tell me to take a hike. I don't wanna spend $100 just to get a CONSULT scan.

My car drove fine for 30K miles since the swap, aside from the CHECK A/T light flashing. Also, I checked my ATF tonight, it seems to be a smidge under the "low" level for the "HOT" range (I checked it whilst it was hot), can that case this problem with going to second gear? I need to top it off tomorrow, but I didn't think being a quart low on ATF could cause this problem?

What do you guys think?

Being low on transmission fluid can definitely cause shifting problems.

Too little or too much fluid is not good. You gotta be right on the money line.

I hope ya'll are right 'cause it did it to me again this morning.

Is there any other way to pull TCM codes besides the dealer or the manual way? Do certain brands of scanners pull TCM codes?

My scanner shows a field for trans codes, but when I try to access it, the scanner just says "THIS FUNCTION NOT SUPPORTED". It says the same thing on my wife's 2008 Subaru.

That front clip wasn't crashed IIRC, but either way check to make sure the nuetral switch is dialed in and there is no visible damage on the gear selector lever (on trans)

if you can help get those codes it would help immensely, but I bet you have a bad selenoid for the TCC.

Refer to the FSM there is a procedure for checking the TCM codes via the shifter.

Thanks. I tried using the FSM to pull TCM codes, tried many times. Couldn't get it to work. I am a bit worried because this may indiciate that the TCM may not see certain inputs, the manual way requires that the TCM sees the e-pedal, ign key so that it can flash diag codes thru the warning light. I may have a wiring prob on my ign circuit that causes the TCM to not see the sequence correctly. I was never sure if I hooked up the ign circuit correctly

dangit I need a Consult! The freakin' GST scanner is worthless!

I'll try to see if someone in my area has access to a Consult.
