ABS kicking in at 10mph

The other day some old bag pulled out in front of me and when i slammed on the brakes the ABS kicked in. From that point on every time i brake, and i hit 10mph, the ABS kicks in. There is no difference in the braking of the car. But i have NO idea whats going. Im going to tear the brakes apart in a little bit, but just wondering if anyone has had the same problem...

no lights? so no matter you brake hard or light, the ABS kicks in at 10mph?

yeah, no lights and it does it no matter what.

i tried pulling the ABS fuse until i can take a look at it, but i guess that fuse also controls the speedometer... because it stopped working when i pulled it...

It sounds like low speed cycling. Clean the "fuzz" off the business end of all your wheel speed sensors.......do the fronts first and see if that stops the cycling. Take a damp rag and run it back and forth a few times between the sensor and the toothed ring on the CV joint (fronts). Or remove each attach bolt (if it wants to loosen) and carefully remove each sensor. Did you use OEM replacement pads or aftermarket pads when you did the brakes? Some pads are worse than others in "shedding" magnetic particles (and removing rotor material) that get picked up by the sensors.

cleaned up all four sensors(which now look brand new now!) and it still is doing it. I pulled a battery cable for a minute to see if that would do anything... and nope, still doing!

anyway you can adjust those sensors? Or maybe one of the sensors is bad. This is a tough problem you have here.

As you apparently didn't find any obvious sensor problems during your cleaning efforts then unfortunately it looks like you'll have to get an appropriate scantool hooked up and see if it'll show what brake or brakes are being released. You have no ABS light on, correct? Does the ABS light come on for a short time (self test) when you start the engine? I had this issue with a previous car and a short drive with the scantool hooked up pinpointed the problem really quickly. FYI the FSM states that the ABS system does not operate below about 6 mph.

the light does come on when i start the car. every once and awhile the ABS light will stay on when i start the car, and then the ABS will not kick in. should i just wait until it comes on again and then go test it? or try the drive/test first...

I hate to threadjack but because of the stupid newbie posting rule I can't make a thread. I bought my 04 SL auto this summer.
Just yesterday I noticed my ABS kicking in while I was driving on a decline at low speed. Now, my driver's side front wheel ABS goes nuts anytime I hit the brakes. It only affects the driver's side front. A few days ago we had our first snowfall here in Montreal and I was aquainting myself with the VDC system. Trying out turns with and without the VDC turned on. The problem I have seems to have appeared after I was playing around with it. I've also noticed the ABS buzzing sound coming from that wheel when I take off from a stop.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

I have this same problem, but it happens very sporadically. We cleaned the sensors and that did not remedy the problem. It only happens during slow-speed braking and you can hear a mechanical "whirr" from the front of the car/under the dash when it happens.

wtf
