Air Filter

Air Filter
I probably shouldn't have made a new thread for this but I realized (after searching through 5gen thread) that there are no specific brand of air filters to be bought. My air filter is so filthy that I cannot see sunlight through them. I want to replace these OEM filters but I am not sure which brand to replace them with. With some research, K&N air filters are known to be pretty good but it cost .... $45? Other air filters are no more than $20 ... So the question is ....
Is it worth buying the K&N air filter ($45) or just any air filter (<$20)? Thanks in advance!

Well, it's the difference between buying a new one every time you feel the need, or simply cleaning the K&N.
Personally, I would go with the K&N or another reusable oiled filter. Just don't over-oil it...

No. Talk to talkinghorse in the group deal thread. He sells Amsoil Ea filters, which are good for 100k, don't need oil, and filter like a champ. Fits like a damn glove and the construction is top-notch.

For about 2 years now.
Hard to argue with that.

Since the talk is "filters", which oil filter is best? I've heard people knock Fram filters, I personally had a seam leak experience with a Purolator on my Maxima. Somebody else told me WIX are good. Of course there's Nissan's own brand. I've never heard of Amsoil. Is there a retailer who sells these?

AMSOIL EaO filters are top-tier products. They're not cheap but the're clearly the best performing, longest lasting filters in the industry today. These filters are constructed with the most premium components and the filtering medium is a 100% synthetic material which provides nearly twice the efficiency of Mobil-1 filters @ 10 microns, tremendous capacity, and service intervals up to 25,000 miles or 1 year. With that said, these filters would be overkill if you use petroleum oil and drain it at traditional oil change intervals...a higher-end standard tier filter (WIX, NAPA Gold, Pure-One come immediately to mind) would be a more cost effective match if that's the case.
Pls send me a PM if I can help with the AMSOIL filter

Wet gauze filters also require the purchase of expensive cleaning kits, and must be re-oiled. Too much (or not enough) oil on the filter will affect it's performance and could lead to driveability problems. So the money you save on a sale-priced filter will be overcome with cleaning/service kits resulting in a higher total life-cycle cost.
AMSOIL Ea filters use the same technolgy that the Army uses for tank engines operated in the desert...filters have to be efficient, they have to have high capacity, and they have to be easily cleaned. Tanks employ a mechanical device that enables the operator to shake the dirt/sand out of the air filters as needed. AMSOIL ea filters are dry-type and are easily cleaned with either a shop vac or low pressure compressed air. When cleaned according to AMSOIL specifications and used in normal service, AMSOIL Ea Air Filters are guaranteed for 100,000 miles or four years, whichever comes first. EaA Filters remain effective for 25,000 miles or one year before requiring cleaning. This coincides with typical service intervals, adding even more convenience for motorists by consolidating routine maintenance.
Let me know if I can help with with an AMSOIL filter...send me a PM with your state of residence and I will send you the total cost. I can save you ~25%. thx
