Update on 2k2 Dyno
Okay guys, this is definitely confusing me already. Anyone wish to give me a better reason i should throw back at them?
I just talked to the guys over at Carboy and this is what i got.
They did the run on 2nd gear because according to them, on an automatic it won't make any difference whether you're on 2nd or 3rd gear as gearing won't affect a dyno run. The funny part is, they also said that if it's put on 3rd the auto will shift to 4th automatically and thus will make the graph's go up and down - making it hard to read it.
I explained that i can keep the auto on 3rd on the 2k2 up to redline without it having to upshift on it's own to 4th but they don't seem to take kindly to that explanation.
As for the STD vs. SAE, they don't do SAE precisely for the reasons SteVTEC suggested SAE in the first place (e.d. difference in temperature, etc)
They even said correcting it for SAE will yield lower results, of around 10-15hp.
Help!

Re: Update on 2k2 Dyno
honestly in my opinion DO NOT GO BACK there. i have an auto and it SHOULD be done in 3rd. it is the gear closest to 1:1 ratio.
these people are either stupid or think your stupid, either way find another dyno house.
and yes in my 1997 i can keep it in 3rd till redline. it' hits 3rd at 40 mph and they have to roll the throttle until about 70 mph and then they hammer it.

Figures. As i said they cater mostly to Honda's so it might have something to do with how they ran the Max on the dyno.
There's a couple more dyno shops i know of here in Houston, the one closest to me was that same one who kept saying "We can't run a dyno on a FWD car"... they cater to Corvette's, Camaro's and Mustangs btw. They're also a bit more expensive.
I sure wish there was an all-knowledgeable shop here with a dyno facility.

Re: Update on 2k2 Dyno
Here is what to tell them:
You want anonther dyno done in 3rd-
Tell them if there is no difference, or a decline, you will pay for run. If it does show a higher hp in 3rd (I'm 95% sure it will), you want the additional run for free.
SAI correction generally lowers the hp ratings if the car is tested in good weather, it raises the ratings in bad weather. I imagine yours will go up a little, since it was hoter out during your run than the correction base.

soundmike--
Hocus Pocus is here in Houston--i spoke with a guy there & he said that those guys don't know what their talking about unless they tried it in third--he said it would have been "proper" to show you the readings in third and then do it in second if needed--i'm gonna set up an appointment for this coming monday if you want to meet up there

Thx
Soundmike thx for the effort but if I were you I wouldn't go back there, sometimes it just isn't worth the hassle. What is going on in the Auto industry? when is one of the car mags going to run a 6 spd 2k test? hopefully soon.

I am in Houston and would be interested in meeting with you at Hocus Pocus. I have a 2002 GXE. Where is Hocus Pocus, keep me updated dude!

Hocus Pocus is located on Bellaire at Kirkwood. It used to be an old Western Auto. Hopefully they won't give you the same problems since they also cater mainly to Honda's.
I want to go check out Endless Performance down the road (Bellaire at Wilcrest) they supposedly cater to Nissan's more than other shops.

Mattatax, I'm not sure if i can make it this Monday though. I'll be moving and will be quite busy then. I'll PM you if i do get a chance. It would be nice to do runs on 3 similar Max's to get an average of the results.
CDog/Matt, how many miles do you guys have on your cars to date?
Yep. I'll try asking Carboy one last time. If they disagree then that's the end of it. I'll try Hocus Pocus as what many have suggested too.

If you guys can dyno together, I'd do it. Back when I got my 2k, a few of us Tampa guys all dyno'd together. Since then we've done different mods and dyno'd the changes. It's great to have that information.
Out dynos with and without mods were some of the first on this board for the 5th gens. It really provides everyone a good benchmark - and lets everyone know what the mods really do as opposed to the b.s. spouted by some aftermarket companies.
By the way, the two stock 5spd we tested dyno'd almost dead on.

damn, i hope the dyno shop i'm going to isn't this retarded. i'll set them straight if they are. i want to wait to get my intake and do two runs with and two without. i'll try to wait but this weather is so tempting right now. 40 degress out, i'm hoping for at least 220FWHP if i go on a cold day.

the reason i ask is that i heard the dyno machine speedo is more accurate than your cars.

Dyno
We have a full DynoJet Chassis dyno. Our normal rate is $110.00 per hour. As mant runs as we can get in that hour.
OR
Get a group together and we can do a DYNO Day at $90.00 per hour. 10-11 cars needed.
