Ok so I know this question has been asked 1000000000000000000000000 times I have read hundreds of posts on this forum and others and still have not found exactly the same symptoms. Here is the deal.... I have a 2000 maxima that has been a bit abused. ( not by me ) its a 5 speed and it has been a handful for a while now. I have everything fixed but one thing! I have had other 5th gen maxima owners drive my car and they say its REALLY slow, that is symptom number 1 number 2 is at 3400 rpm EVERY time unless im WOT it has a violent hesitation it almost feels like im stabbing the brakes. Symptom number 3 It will stall when i push the clutch once in a great while. symptom number 4 the CES light is not on but when i check for codes it throws a code saying running a little rich. SO I am guessing it is the maf because the coilpacks were replaced at 98k miles by nissan and so was the o2 sensor and i changed sparkplugs 15k ago right now im at 129000 miles. SO anyone else have $.02 to add in? I have tried to find a working maf but it is hard to do for under 200$ My business closed and left me with nearly nothing so I am pinching pennies atm so i cant swing $200 but if anyone knows where i could get 1 for >= to 100$ would be nice? If that is even the problem? Thank you in advance

so what exactly was the code that you were coming up with? It could be other things besides the maf, I know most guys on here blame 90% on the maf but there are other things to go bad besides the maf that would make the engine behave abnormal.

My 01 max was hesitating at the EXACT same rpm. The CEL was not on, but the MAF was bad. Bought a new one, bam, problem fixed. No more hesitation. I can't compare w/ the code, as I didn't get it checked. Call Dave B at Southpoint Nissan in TX. I think it was $80 or $90 something shipped, installed it myself.

Gonna threadjack with a quick question that maybe someone knowledgeable can answer.

If I have a 2k3 with MAF # 22680-AM600(blown) and I buy another 22680-AM600, do I still need the ECM reflashed? Or can I just drop it right in and not worry about it?

I figured you'd only need the ECM reflashed if you're upgrading to a different part number.

i don't think so skidz, usually a reflash is required if you buy an upgraded MAF

When I changed my original MAF in my 2000 I30 to a new one with a new number I did not do the ECU flash and its been fine.

The new MAF reflash is a misnomer, almost all 00's will need it, but very few if any 01s need the reflash. it only costs about $60 and is well worth the new P/N MAF to get it.

To clarify, even if your 01 did not come w/ the new P/N MAF, it most likely wont need the reflash. The later cars had the same flash already.

For 5.5 Gens, the flash is definately not necessary if you use an identical P/N and I was not aware of a newer maf for 5.5 gens. 5.5 genners please chime in
