nasty scratches.. suggestions?
so, I happened to see on my car this morning:
scratches all the way through the paint on my front driver side door (on that plastic molding part) and minor scratches above and below that (some are through the clear coat, most are not; I think)...
I checked my dad's I30, and the scratches correspond w/ his right rear bumper (my paint is even on there). He didn't even realized that he hit my car.
anyways, I yelled at him this morning, and he immediately said that he'll get it painted somewhere else (besides the dealership; he wants to "save money" that way). I said NO, because the paint anywhere else won't match as well and they might not do such a good job. Moreover this car is brand new.
I was thinking of maybe just asking the service manager to see if it's possible to just replace that side molding strip, and then buff out whatever is possible above and below....
any suggestions? did what I say about the paint not matching anywhere else seem likely? The paint is sterling mist... so I kinda also figure that since the paint looks grey/beige depending on the lighting, whatever paint color they apply won't match in different lighting....
HELP ME!!! I'm so DAMN FRUSTRATED!!!

[ wherever you go make sure its a place that specializes in matching paint. I got my fender repainted at a place that computer matches the color and it matches perfectly. I had a 98 max that got in a minor accident and i tried to save money and went with the cheapest quote, needless to say the color didnot match. Also the dealer might not be the best place to go. Ask wherever you go if they guarentee their work.good luck.

Ouch! Damaging an I30 and a beautiful Max in the same incident... I too would probably prefer to go the dealer to ensure an exact color match. If the scratches will buff out, that might be a good compromise? I believe the dealer can erplace the plastic piece too. Good luck

It's a good thing though that he's going to get it painted

yeah, so I took it to the dealership and had the service manager look at it. Turns out that the door is slightly dented, too...
he estimated about $550 if I wanted to fix the dent, repaint, and replace the side molding as well.
I guess I'll probably try and find out how much it would cost somewhere else... sheesh...
