00 Max questions...

Okay so I bought this car at about 80k miles, and since then barely any issues at all. Engine runs as sound as it did the day I bought it. Now I have got 120k on the car now. Wondering if I should ditch it and get a new one or keep it and continue on. I do owe about 7k on the car still, cause when I purchased it, it was worth 12k at the time, and I got it for 9k. I had to refinance to get the rear fixed after someone rear ended me. So basically i'm in the hole, not alot but still there.

So what would you guys do?

I love the car, and it has been fantastic from the start. The only two issues I have is a small air leak somewhere within the vacuum lines, and it seems to have wierd electrical issue when starting, it like starts fine but in the beginning like chokes, but its not the engine or starter. Wierd I know...

Why get rid of it if you're not having any problems?

With proper maintenance it'll keep going past 300k miles...

keep it and keep up on maintenence especially if you are in the hole.

i bet your starting problem is related to the vac leak as well

Yeah I would really like to figure it out, because it's getting worse. Plus I notice a whistle inside my vehicle when I accelerate. It does sound like its coming from the engine bay. Yeah it has been a wonderful vehicle.

wouldnt happen to have an Intake now would you?

because if you do, there is a common hiss/whistle noise associated with aftermarket intakes

157k orig miles on my 2k max, and other then the MAF, one ignition coil, radiator, pre-cat, and 2nd muffler the car runs great. since you are in arizona you won't have problems with rust build up. just keep up with your general maintenance and it will run for a long long time.

I dont know why you would want a new car if the one you have is working fine. I bought my Max with 89k now it has 104k and it still runs great.

No everything is stock on my max. So i'm guessing it's just a silly vacuum leak. Although the wierd starting is making me wonder what's goin on.

I did have the starter replaced, but replaced it with one from auto zone at the time because I needed one quickly for a trip we took. Changed it at about 100k, and ever since then it has started funky. I do know the quality of those starters and they are reconditioned, so I know most of those are cheap garbage. So i'm thinking of getting a OEM Nissan one and replacing it again. Honestly sometimes I do think thats the problem I am having, cause it doesn't always do it. It happens here and there...

i have an 01 AE and i have that 'weird' noise when its super cold... like the below zero temps we had last week...

but when its nicer out than i don't have the noise...

i bought my 01 in sept of 06 with 66k and now has close to 130k, still runs like a champ.

i bought my 02 in aug of 08, as my beater with a heater , with 199k on it... thinking about giving that one the boot and getting an 09... just a though.

Mine does it cold or hot... I'm thinking its just a cheap starter.

I gave my 92 Maxima to a friend when it had 328,000 miles on it and he still drives it today. My new 2000 Maxima has 140K with only minor problems (MAS, 1 Coil) with all maintenance done on time. Even if you skipped on the maintenance in the past, its still a lot more cost effective to keep a car maintained then to ditch it. Then again if you don't absolutely love your Maxima-there's plenty of guys here that will.

I definately love my car, no doubt. So heres another question... Would you go with Clear Projectors or Blacked out ones on a white Max?

You'll probably save more money just keeping it..

If you're really worried about it, go have it checked out by a mechanic.

Nissans are pretty good cars. My mom put 100,000 miles on hers in 3 years, and only changes the oil every 8,000 miles (yes I know it's bad but she doesnt listen)
Poor thing looks like **** but nothing's ever went wrong with it.

Sorry to be slightly off topic but i need to ask about this picture. Are the lights between your off button and the manual fan speed control button on the A/C controller out? I took my head unit out at one point out of simple curiosity and those same lights were out when i put it all back in. Ive managed to get all my lights to turn back on though. i think ive figured out why so let me know if its a problem for you, or anyone else for that matter.

Also. . .

Previously mentioned in this thread was a high-pitch whistle from the engine. I replaced my intake with a Stillen Hi-Flow intake and i get a slight whistle when i press the gas down, but i only hear it in first gear(auto) and only when i first touch the pedal. Should i be concerned about this?

My 2k2 did the same when I had to take my stereo out. After looking on here it was common, whacked the side of the console with my fist and they started working again.....

Aye. All i had to do for mine was give it a lil bit of lovin, a fist to the face plate, and all of the lights turned back on. To take the entire head unit out i had to first pop off the wood grain looking trim around the auto shifter. When i did this it would pop up into ac-controller, making a loud noise and thus slightly popping off the face plate. Ive assumed this is the cause due to the fact that the led which seems to control the button lights is located on the underside of the ac controls.

The brief grinding noise from the starter at startup is due to decreased lubrication of the shaft assembly inside the starter housing. Thr starter has to disassembled and regreasefd, or the starter replaced with a we rebuilt one.

Adding to the thread, I had starting issues on my 2000 around the 125k mark. Slow turnover, even with a new battery. Turns out the starter was dying and I replaced it with a factory Nissan unit (Hitachi?) and has worked fine ever since. Ran me about $240 IIRC.
