SYSTEM TOO LEAN BANKS 1 AND 2

Ok, i have used the search forums...ive read alot but still not minimizing this...my car is throwing both these codes bank 1 and bank 2 running lean...car smells like rotten eggs once its been warmed up and up to about 85 mph or higher, before that speed i get no smell....im not noticing any loss off power except from the hole in the back of my muffler....(which is being replaced soon) i cleaned my MAF and it hasnt changed anything...this is a cali-spec maxima...so would this be my o2's my cat or what? lemme know thanks

You might need to post the actual codes (not "bank 1 and bank 2 running lean").

From what I've read, those codes together, in the end, usually point to a faulty MAF. I know you said you cleaned it but if it is faulty, cleaning it wouldn't fix it.

Another one with no clear answer.....
i been on this subject for about 2 months with no clear indication, i get same issues, I replaced all O2 sensors, i havent gotten it in awhile but i do get nasty rotten sulphur smell when i pull hills, my next step is the MAF , but the car is running and driving fine.

i once had the same code (PO171 bank 1 system too lean) and turned out to be the MAF sensor. I had it replaced but it was semi costly for a new one + labor ($350.00). I had it replaced on the the LAST day of a 60 day warrenty lucky me.

no problems since then...

If the codes don't re-occur, the light will go off after a certain period. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back on though.
I'm having the same problem, I will try replacing the MAF if I can find a cheap one.
Anyone else got any more insight on this?

i would replace the MAF first. If you need to replace the converter, replace the y-pipe while your at it.

I should be getting a new MAF tomorrow and get it reprogrammed, I will report back on how the car reacts to it.
My car also gets the rotten egg smell after hard pulls, which made me think the cat is bad, and it failed emissions testing (CO, which points to running rich or a bad cat). I will see how it does with the new MAF
