Rpms high on parkway?

Been noticing this for a while but never investigated the issue. I have a few pictures of my cars Rpm while cruising on the highway. do these seem too high? i wasnt accelerating just driving along at a pretty steady pace. btw the cel is for o2 sensors.

EDIT: I have a picture of it at about 2.5 rpm going 70 but it wont upload.

You don't have a 6 speed...

Ok, I'm a smart ***, but that's higher than a 6 speed so it looks normal for an auto to me.

Maybe he has a 6speed, but he only has it in 5th gear in the picture.

But that would beg the question why is D still lit up after the swap and why only 5th gear

If it's 1,500 rpms or above, I'm in the tallest gear. Hell, if I'm on a level surface (or slightly uphill) I'll chug right along in 4th and 5th at 1,300. I don't even downshift for hills. Just a little more gas and she goes right up. I have a feeling people drive at too high of rpms

Yup, that's normal for a 4-speed auto.

I used to occasionally run 87 or 89 octane gas in my car, and it seemed like driving was a little rough whenever the rpms were below 2k. Now I always run 93 or 94 octane, and I pretty much drive 1 gear higher than I used to (1500-1600 rpm, shift at 2000-2500 rpm). Sometimes I shift directly from 2nd to 4th, and sometimes from 4th to 6th, because I can.

Don't know how the octane will affect the parkway rpms of an automatic, but it's an easy thing to try.

Oh, and I guess the pic was so out of focus that I didn't even notice it was a D

I have the same problem. I read some place that performance exhaust would help. I am looking to fix this some how as well. I have a stock 02 with 112k miles. I wonder if underdrive pulleys would help.

Your RPM is normal for your speed. You don't drive a V8. Thread closed.
