All Maximas 4DSC's?

So are all maximas considered 4dsc's or just the earlier ones and the 7th gens? Because, if you think about it, our 5th gen max's are alot more "sportier" in my mind than the 6th and 7th gens. For one thing, we actually have GEARS .. and ours are offered in Manual trannys.

IMHO 5th gens are more BMW 5-series-ish (E39) ... minus the RWD

and the newer 7th gen "4dsc's" are more like the new 7 series - A relaxed cruiser without a gear stick.

Anyone agree, that the 5th gen (which by the way, i think is the last best breed of the maxima) is more of a 4 door sports car than the 09 will ever be?

There has been quite a bit of discussion about the lack of a MT in the 7th gen when they are calling it a 4DSC. In my opinion, the MT doesnt define a "sports car", but it would definitely help the cause and makes it a lot more fun to drive.

As for the 5th gens, the SE looks pretty sporty. But IMO, the stock suspension keeps all 5th gens from being a "sports car". Since I put the RSB on mine, its a bit closer, but still not a sports car. I dont think the GLE's (especially without a spoiler) even look sporty.

I guess I feel that performance characteristics like acceleration, speed and handling define whether or not a car is a "sports car", but looks and the MT are bonuses.

Conclusion: If you can drive it like a sports car, then it is a sports car. If you cant drive it like a sports car, mod it.....and make it a sports car.

I personally dont really care what the manufacturer labels it or tries to sell it as.

All sports cars or sport sedans should go around corners well in stock form which the 5/5.5gens dont. I can't see placing e39 in the same sentence with 5gen unless its a size comparo.

4dsc is more of a marketing scheme than anything they mainly brought it back to revamp sales of the fading max in the altima's success. IMO the G37(sport) sedan is more of a 4dsc - 6speed 330hp and RWD!! 7th gens are tight but Nissan needs 2 drop some pounds on the max and add some power and a Manual option to claim the title.

Note: G37coupe add 2 doors = 4DSC (wake up Nissan) Lol

Wouldn't you have a G series car at that point.

well i guess the simple answer to this is the monopoly which is played by car manufactures .. because if they put everything into the maxima.. then who would buy the infiniti model line up? But yea, they are definitely falling short to the 4DSC claim in the 7th gen. I mean its still more of a sport sedan than its competitor - the avalon .. but still not a "4dsc"

True the maxima has to fall between the Altima and the G sedan when it comes to price and performance which it does but when compairing options and power to weight ratio of the three the 7th gen falls short. I think the balance between Nissan and Infiniti line has shifted way over to Infiniti's side to me there lineup is way better and they still haven't released the new M and Q50 yet... 2 bad I can't afford any of them at the moment

The 3rd and 7th Gen are the only "official" 4DSCs, Google it and you'll find lots of articles and opinions. As for whether or not another generation should be considered a 4DSC, that's purely up to the individuals tastes and wishlist. Sorry, I just don't see the point of this thread. There are plenty of other threads discussing the 7th Gen, Maxima vs. Altima vs. G35, so look around there for more opinions.
