03 MAXIMA VSS WIRE LOCATION

I am going to be installing a pioneer AVIC-D3 in my 2003 Max and I wanted to know if anyone has pics of where the VSS wire is. I kind of have an idea of its location but I just wanted to be 100% before I go ahead with the install. I don't think this makes a difference but its the titanium edition.

tap into the gauge cluster. It's the green wire in this pic

now is that the VSS wire or is it just the wire that goes to the speedometer, because in the manual that came with the avic-d3 says to use the VSS wire coming off of the ECM, and not the wire going to the speedometer.

I have the avic D3 and it worked for me. Because the signal is being sent there I soldered right to the metal piece not into the harness.

If you want to do it at the ECM it will be a major PITA. This was so much easier and I have had no problems.

That green wire isn't there when you remove the cluster, you solder the green wire from the avicd3 to that location

actually, the wire is pink, on the d3, but I didn't have any pink wire so I used green

According to the FSM... the combination meter provides a voltage signal to the VSS via pin 15, where I have soldered the green wire. So you are tapping into the source if you solder to that pin in the pic, much easier then trying to find the correct wire on the ecu

Speed sense? Tap the pink wire with the blue stripe on the back of the cluster. Should be in the brown plug. Dont unplug it, just tap it (if you do unplug dont start the car with it unplugged). Also same colors at the ECU if you go that route.

I think the one knight soldered is the tach. White with green stripe in the white harness. Not sure what your deck needs but those are the tach and speed sense.

This is info from the 02 FSM, someone please correct this if wrong.

Doesn't hooking it up to the VSS guarantee you cannot watch it when moving?

Nope. Move and ground the Mute wire (IIRC) and problem solved. Also it's easiest to tap the speedo signal right at the ECM, it's not hard to get to the harness at all.
