running lean and rich at the same time?

Ok i had posted a while back about some codes,my car was running lean, now i rechecked the codes before i was going to adress this issue and i got more codes saying im running lean and rich on banks 1. po171 and po172 i do believe is what they were, now i know there are front and rear banks, on bank 1 resulting in lean on bank 1 and rich on also bank 1 what would cause this? Is this a definate sign of a MAF(152k on car) or would it be my oxygen sensors? or possibly both?

Any other symptoms? Could be either of those or coils.

No, no other symptoms, the car runs mint otherwise, minus the fact that when i accelerate and it gets to about 4000 rpms i push the gas pedal a lil harder and you can really feel it take off. It almost hesitates. But thats been like that since i bought it.

I'm going to default MAF if you're not having any other symptoms. The power at 4000 RPM (more likely 5000 RPM) is VAIS.

Variable Induction Air Control: It's what separates the 5th gen motor from a 4th gen motor. It occurs at high RPMs and makes up for the lack of power in the high end the 4th gens suffer.

It really isn't important for your problem, though.

Yes, unless it breaks, which they've been known to.

Ignition misses tend to give a lean reading!

Testing my MAF

I am trying to test my MAF on my 2001 Maxima se (5 speed, manual) as per the Haynes repair manual. I disconnected the MAF sensor electrical connector. I connected the positive lead of my voltmeter to the red wire terminal of the MAF and the negative lead to a good engine ground (I chose the negative connection to my battery). I turned the ignition to the on position, according the Haynes manual the meter should indicate approximately battery voltage. My battery voltage indicated 12 volts when I checked it, my MAF only indicated 5 volts. Does this mean that there is a problem with my circuits. Here is what I find strange. I tested the voltage with the MAF sensor electrical connector connected (with the engine on) by back probing the MAF sensor white wire terminal, connected the positive wire of the voltmeter to the probe and connected the negative to a ground point, the voltage readings were as per the Haynes manual:

Idle 1.7 volts,
With increased rpm, 3.0 volts.

What am I doing wrong or missing here? If my circuit is the problem, shouldn't the second reading be incorrect as well.
Symptoms or reasons why I am questioning my MAF:
1- Rough Idle
2- Hesitation
3- Code P1320 (gas to lean)
4- Began recently: the car "stutters"(not sure how else to describe it , shaking maybe) once it warms up. This however is not constant. It comes and goes. If I keep driving with the stuttering, it eventually comes back to normal, no stuttering. But it will return at next start up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to the DIY world
