Intermittent code 1320 experienced

Lately, I've been getting an intermittent code 1320, which points to a signal loss between the primary ignition and ecm. According to the service manual, this is normally followed by another code that will point to the coil trigerring the code. I did not get the secondary codes.

Is this a signal to change the ignition coils? The Max has 143,000 miles but still purrs on idle.

Very possible. Look at this write-up on how to check which coils are bad:

replace all or just the bad ignition coil?

I've been getting an occasional P1320 on my 2000 max SE with rare jerking at low RPM and based on the posts on the forums it's an ignition coil. I tried the coil test write-up but no coil was obviously bad. I decided to wait until the bad coil fails completely and the cylinder starts misfiring. Yesterday I got another P1320 and a misfire on cylinder 1 with persistent jerking at low RPM. I was relieved to pinpoint the coil, but now I'm debating whether to replace just the offending coil, or all of them? Since they are highly likely to die, another one might go soon. What would you recommend? I can get the whole set for $200 or a single one for $40 off ebay. I got the car used, so I don't know whether the coils were ever replaced. If they are going to die one by one, I'd rather get it over with, but if it's typically a single coil, it would be nice to save the money. Any suggestions much appreciated!

I did mine myself, one in the back #3 and one infront #6 after getting the codes... got em from autozone and never had A problem since. Easy job shop wanted 600 dollars to change them all...what A rip off for a five minute job (per one) that I did myself. Do one at a time and save your money and look in the treads how to do it if you dont its very simple

How difficult was the job to change the one in the back #3 (is that the firewall center one)? I believe the cylinders are numbered as follow:-

Pass Driv
=Firewall=
========
1 3 5
2 4 6
========
=Radiator=

I replaced the front one couple of years ago and now I need to replace one in the back but have not got to it yet as I got the code for the rear coil once and the car is still running fine.

Thanks,
- Vikas

P.S. If they are the original, then eventually, they will all go. I did purchase all six from ebay but had replaced only one so far as stated above.
