Clutch Bleeding question

My neighbor and I were bleeding the clutch in my gen 5.5 earlier tonight. I would pump the pedal a few times, hold the pedal to the floor, and my neighbor would loosen the bleeder valve (alternating between the slave cylinder and the hose connector near the master cylinder).

Once the bleeder valve was loosened, and fluid came out, he re-tightened the valve. I would let my foot off the pedal, but it would stay on the floor. I don't have much experience with this, but that doesn't seem normal to me. What does it mean? Each time, I would have to pull the pedal up by hand, then pump it several times to gradually build up pressure again.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That's normal. I had to pull the pedal up on mine too.

Up until a few days ago, the engagement point of the clutch was when the pedal was about 1.5" off the floor. It got colder outside for a few days, and I started noticing the engagement point getting closer to the floor, almost to the point where it seems like it might not be fully disengaging sometimes, even when the pedal is on the floor. My theory was that the volume of the fluid in the system was contracting in the cold weather, and now would be the best time to bleed the clutch. I figured I won't get many more opportunities to bleed the clutch when temps are in the 20's.

Anyway, as of last night, after bleeding the clutch, the engagement still seems really low, like between 0.5 and 1.0" off the floor. The weather is still cold, but will be warming up substantially soon. I'll know soon enough if the temp is a factor.

The clutch is new, and I'm really hoping that is not the issue. The pedal is adjusted all the way out, so the pushrod (attached to the pedal) is going all the way in to the master cylinder.

I didn't notice any leaks around the master or slave cylinder, or around the clutch lines.

What could be the problem? Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found out a new slave cylinder is only $18, so I guess I'm going to try replacing that. I'll probably go with a S/S clutch line while I'm at it. Anyone know where to get a S/S clutch line other than ebay? I looked through the group deals, but didn't see any. Doesn't seem to be searchable.

I got mine from Racetech Performance. I think most of us got ours from them. $40 shipped.

If the clutch pedal is not returning it is more likely the master clutch cylinder that needs replacing. When the slave cylinder is shot you won't be able to move the clutch, but the pedal will return.

yeah mine was doing the same thing. Dealer replaced the slave and master cylinders under warranty and the problem was solved. I'm not sure which was the culprit, though.
