Cattman 3" catback

Hey guys, I was just seeing if anybody was interested in the exhaust. At the moment cattman has about 3 guys that are set to buy it but cattman needs at least 7 people to be able to have the order made. If you're interested in the exhaust give brian a call at 1-800-759-9920. I'm asking because I want to generate interest into having the exhaust actually produced.

Price:
Cattman 3” Catback Exhaust for 00-03 Maxima and 00-04 I30/I35 (8-10 backorders needed to begin production); $659.99 w/o a resonator (not needed for turbos, but recommended for n/a cars), $739.99 with a 22” resonator.

I'm interested based on price. I think the gains are great, but if it is too much, I'd rather go custom.

I have interest as well, based on price and gains versus a 2.5".

What kind of gains over the 2.5" exhaust? Also what kind of soun ae we looking at? All of my friends cars are really loud that have 3" exhaust. Im talking bearly passing DEQ at 93db. Thats cool for 240's and RX-7's but not maxima's. I'll wait for a video and dyno sheets before I even think about this one.

At least from a 3.0 standpoint, I've always went with the notion that if you're N/A, 2.5" is plenty of flow. Only time one would use 3" is if boosted. Not sure from a 3.5 standpoint. All I know is my 4th gen S/C'er with 3" exhaust drove me off the deep end because of how loud it was. The fact the drone can overpower my stereo turned up really high sucked.

if your concerned about the noise, i'm sure you can weld in a larger resonator... i'm going with a 30" resonator on my 3"

After the necessary orders are in place, I'm wondering if Brian will be willing to sell only B-pipes, midpipes etc. I'm looking to eventually have a 3" Cattman midpipe and B-pipe, and then a custom 3" side-outlet right infront of my right tire, possibly through the use of a flex-pipe? After driving with out my axle-back for a little while, it was more than just a placebo effect that there were, at least, minimal gains. I'd love to do a dyno just to see.

I'd actually be more inclined to buy this since I have my heart set on a certain muffler. No offense to the Cattman muffler.

I am interested in the apexi WS2 turbo universal muffler. I currently have the NA version on my stock catback and I love the sound. IMO the WS2 has a deeper but quieter sound. I understand I don't have the b pipe or headers yet which would change the sound but I've heard them on several cars and always loved it. I have a crappy vid clip in the exhaust sticky.

Does anyone know how much a flex-pipe would absorb sound, as in, used for a replacement to a muffler?

It would make virtually no difference.

How responsive is the 3" exhaust to small throttle movements such as in slow traffic?

I would guess that it would not be AS responsive, but would not lack entirely. From a stop, I'm guessing a little more gas will be needed.

i'm also guessing that you'll feel alot more top end i'm hoping anyway.. i'm scheduling an appointment to have mine put on saturday.. i started a thread a while ago about getting a custom 3" exhaust built, and i should have had it done a while ago, but i didn't.. lol.. i was trying to wait until i cleared up this misfire issue, but i STILL have not figured it out.. i replaced all the spark plugs, tested all the coils, and i'm still not sure what it is.. but i'm gonna go ahead and get the exhaust anyway.. i'll worry about that later

I just got my complete Cattman exhaust w/headers installed a couple weeks ago and even though I am extremely pleased with the performance gains, the exhaust is really loud. I am taking it to Ziebart next week who will apply their sound deadener on my car for their sale price of $200.00. This will reduce road noise by 13db. I can only hope the drone will also be slightly reduced.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but is this the 2.5" set up that you're talking about? Haven't heard many complain about the noise...which is why I ask.

You won't know until you dyno.

It depends entirely on the design of the exhaust and what parts are used.

Indeed. Design, I believe, is way more of a factor than tubing diameter in terms of gains. Obviously experimentation must be had for optimal numbers, but if you want something with dyno proven gains, follow closely to the proto-type design...just not too closely

Brian: Any word on whether or not you'd be willing to section out your 3" BEFORE whole cat-backs are sold?

another option would be to get a larger resonator and/or a larger muffler to absorb the sound

I doubt he will sell them by sections.

Don't get this exhaust if you want a quiet exhaust... the exhaust is loud, though powerful I will say ahead of time it is loud. The resonator helped with some of the drone at cruising speed.

I had the exhaust on my car for 6 months probably maybe longer, never got pulled over.

It is a loud exhaust but at least for my car was worth the added horsepower.

Merlyn, I've watched your videos with the 3" exhaust, and usually cameras are hard to capture the pure sound of the exhaust, but is it really that loud?

I've heard 2.5" exhausts from local members, and they have a good amount of sound over stock (also dependent on the muffler) but say for the Cattman, could this be solved with a 3" resonator and/or possibly a quieter muffler?

Did yours have the 22" resonator in it?

I believe I had an 18 or 22" installed, honestly I forget, but it was more then likely the 22" as I wanted the largest resonator possible.

The sound is not impossible to live with, but it definitely is noticeable. You can hold conversations in the car, but well for instance, on the way to work in the morning pmohr had trouble sleeping in my car with the exhaust...

the videos do give you a good idea of what the exhaust sounds like, maybe not exact volume, but it does give you an idea...

the exhaust is not quiet, it will never be quiet or else you have defeated it's purpose by someone restricting a ton of air.

The exhaust performs, and is for someone who wants performance, but if you are wondering if your parents will notice that you changed your exhaust, the answer is yes... because they will more then likely hear the rumble from inside your house (I could tell when my remote start worked because I would hear the rumble of the car from about 40 feet away in my house)

i'm surprised cattman hasn't posted any dynos for the gains that the 3" exhaust makes... merlyn, yours made at least 20hp over stock right?

EDIT: my bad, i was just reading over some previous posts, and I came accross the graphs:

Horsepower:

Torque:

Now, the blue line is a run with the 2.5" catback, and the other colors are the 3 runs with the 3" catback right?

I don't think Brian ever had it dynoed, IIRC he never had any hands on dealings with HNDA_ETR, the original owner of the proto 3".

Read the thread and watch the video, all of the gains and graphs are easily available.

If we had a chance to see more consistency, equivelant to that of Merlyn's success, Brian would have NO TROUBLE selling this 3"...it's this stupid skepticisim I think that us froogle Maxima owners have that is preventing this exhaust from going in production. 20hp gains over a 2.5" exhaust is simply unheard of with our cars...how is this not taking off?
