I'm not really sure what quality welds look like. How do those welds look to you guys?

Also, I'm not sure what mandrel bent piping looks like either.. lol.. I did get mandrel bends right?

Welds aren't Great but look adequate to hold and its crush bending. With the welds it somewhat difficult to get really great welds when you are welding under the car, so long as they hold it doesnt really matter if they are pretty.

Good welds look like a stack of dimes that has been laid on its side. Like this

NICE Job Chris. Not loud at all. I'm no expert either but those welds look decent. It does the job.

the removed my whole exhaust from the cat, back to the muffler.. then they put the resonator on there, bent the 3" pipes, put those on there, then put the muffler on

ohh, my fault, i didnt understand your question.. lol.. i picked out the resonator and muffler beforehand and took it to them to install.. i just did some research on here, listened to sound clips, and ordered the muffler and resonator that i wanted.. i took the parts to them, and they just built the piping.. i wasnt even gonna try no resonator.. lol.. my boy has a non-resonated 3" exhaust with stock headers on his maxima, and his is too loud

I'm like you,... I like my exhaust quiet as stock. .. but with teeth!!! That big *** resonator did it's job, and that muffler did too! My Cattman 2.5" catback w/ Cattman headers was too loud for me. So I'll be installing a 10436 magnaflow to see if it will quiet those part throttle traffic accelerations, and coasting situation the seem a bit less responsive with small 1/4" to 1/2" throttle movements! Good job guy...you did your homework!

thanx man! i'm not sure which muffler that is, but make sure it's at least an 18" to quiet it down.. you might need a bigger resonator too since you have headers

I dont think you got any power. when I had my 4gen I did a 2.5 inch catback with stock headers and y-pipe and stock cat without the resonator and a strait through muffler and didnt gain any power. just a little more growl but that was it.

I went to the track to test it and I had the exact same times as I did when it had the stock exhaust.

My point is that a catback exhaust doesnt do anything for our cars.

the idea behind gaining power has to do with those with a 3.5 not a 3.0 ,.. and the dyno behind it was on merlyns old car,.. althought that was a cattman 3" prototype...

So with the 3.5 you gain power with a catback but not with the 3.0??

Definitely crushed bent but it's pretty difficult to find a shop with a mandrel, with 3" I don't think crushed bent is really hurting you enough to worry about it, it's not an all out race car. I am digging the sound, it is definitely quieter than my car with stock manifolds/y-pipe/cat and 2.25" magnaflow with deleted resonator. After listening to this I may have that same magnaflow resonator welded in, good work.

3" on a 3.5 is DYNO PROVEN to give power especially with headers. Research before you post cause you look like a fool

maybe daveVQ can chime in.. i know he was doing something with a 3" on a 3.0,.. but not sure what happened to him and his max...

Yea, just like you researched about a question I had earlier.

Where did you get that muffler? Do you have a part# for it? I looked around on the Magnaflow site and the only 5x8 mufflers I could find in the street series were all 14"...not the 18" that you have.

go to http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...tmagnaflow.com... go to mufflers... then go to oval body, then 5X8 oval... you should see it

so did i get ripped off?

after looking at some images online, the only bend that looks questionable is where it connects at the resonator.. other than that they look pretty good.. what do you guys think?

No not at all a custom set up from a local muffler shop is just fine. Yes they are crush bends but at the same time the exhaust necks down at the stock cat so that is your bottle neck in exhaust flow. And like i said before everything looks fine to me

Good deal, I found it. I just need to get the 2.5" since I'm just replacing my OEM muffler. Err, sure wish they had a dual outlet though.

It's actually the same size as the Cattman resonator (22") but it's round and the Cattman is the bullet style on my car, the flat end plate I think may play some important role in the sound wave reflection and possibly a quieter resonator...Willing to try anything to reinstall that Cattman rear muffler since the mid to high rpm range is a monster, just trying to quiet it since the headers increased the volume!

alright, i'm not gonna make another video cause the sound hasn't changed.. i only wish there was more sound in the upper rpms.. the exhaust basically disappears at about 4k, and the intake takes over.. does anybody know how to get more sound out of my exhaust in the upper rpms?

oh.. and i guess the ECU needed a little time to adjust, cause now i can say with confidence that there definitely is a noticeable power gain throughout the rpm band

That's good to hear.

I bet after all the delays and stuff you would have been pissed if you didn't get the noticeable difference, I know I would have.

Thanks again for recording your process of the exhaust changing from a different setup. That helps others on here converting to the recently more sought after 3" exhaust.

Not really sure how to make the exhaust louder in the higher rpm's, maybe a different series muffler

well see, the removal of the cat is gonna make it louder and possibly raspy throughout the RPM band.. i like how it sounds down low, and i dont want it to get any louder.. i just want more noise up top... hmm...

no problem man.. yeah, i know how i feel when i'm tying to decide on a part, not knowing what to expect.. so i just wanted to make it easier on other people with this mod that not a whole lot of us have experience with.. and yeah, i would have been quite pissed if there was no difference in power.. lol
