What color fog lights to get?

I recently installed some H4 PIAA Xtreme Whites and they are awesome. Kind of a "cool" blue that isn't too noticeable but are very bright and I can see a LOT more of the road.

I'm wondering if I should get the H3 Xtremes for my fog lights so all my lights match, or, I'm thinking about the PIAA Ion Crystals. I have a lot of fog where I live in the winter and am wondering if they really do help. Are they really yellow and do they help in the fog? Or should I just get the Extremes and go for the matching look?

I think the way the foglight lens is designed, u wont get that bright yellow color (a la Lexus GS400). I've heard PIAA H3 Extreme Whites are the way to go.

I have both the H4 and H3 Extreme Whites and I must say I like the way they look. If you want the true functionality of the fogs then you should go with something yellow. The additional bright light of the Xtreme White Fogs would actually cause more harm than good if you were driving in fog. In day to day driving the additional light from my fogs does help a lot. I guess you'll have to make that decision.

I regret getting these ghetto no name fog's. They are supposed to look superwhite, but instead they look yellow. How much were the PIAA Extreme whites and where did u get them from?

I got my H3s from Phuong at GR Racing. They were $50 plus $8 shipping to FL. That's probably the best price I've seen on them.

when do you use your fog lights?

I realize a lot of times people use fog lights so others can see them better, may it be foggy or super clear. I don't usually use mine unless it is foggy, snowy, or when I am on the highway or in the valleys where street lighting is low/doesn't exist.

So, certain types of bulbs will look better while other types would function better. Since I am no expert in this aspect can someone explain stock vs. PIAA white vs. yellow fog lights? Would it make no sense to have the fog lights look like HID?

Having the fogs look like HIDS is more for cosmetic and added visibilty during day to day driving. The yellow fog lights are for for true foggy driving conditions. Here's some info from autosupermarket.com:

What is ION (yellow) versus White? Amber light has been proven to penetrate through fog better than clear white light which reflects more in foggy areas. Thus Amber light will allow you to see farther. Clear fog lights have been manufactured by PIAA to perform as effectively as amber with the exception of heavy snow conditions. Creating an amber light without dimishing the intensity of the light is difficult and has been mastered by PIAA.

Hope this helps.

Also....

If you want true functionality of the fogs then go with the yellows. It will give you kinda like the Lexus fog look but not as yellow since Lexus uses a yellow lense not yellow bulb. If not then you should match your fogs and headlamps.

A friend of mine who owns a audi A4 swapped his halogen headlights for a lexus system. Anyone know if it's possible to do it with the foglights with a max? I really love the foglights on the lexus cars.

white/blue/purple/HID H3's = driving lights
yellow h3's = fog lights

Driving lights are basically for cosmetics and better visibility during "clear" nights. Using these otherwise will usually cause the light to reflect off the elements rather than lighting your way for better vis.

Fog lights are basically for other-than-clear nights including rain, fog, snow, etc... It cuts through the elements for better vis.

It's really a personal choice and also where you live. It doesn't rain much in SoCal so I have the PIAA Extreme H3's.

The Xtreme whites are very white, with a slight blue tint to it. Although they are not as flashy looking to oncomers, they offer excellent visibility. The Plasmas are more blue in color for better looks but with less visibility for the driver. Also, the Plasmas are only blue on low beams, the brights are white.

Okay, dilema solved. I just ordered a pair of H3 PIAA Ion Crystals today. Keep your eyes open and I'm sure I will talk about them once they're installed. If I don't like them then hopefully someone else on this forum might.

If anyone's interested, these are the prices I found on them:

Autotoys, $56/pair
http://store.autotoys.com/cgi-bin/wfp53024.storefront

Auto Bulb Depot, $50/pair
http://www.autobulbdepot.com/index.t...08787484274101

Options Auto Salon, $37/pair
http://www.optauto.com/webstore/

As you guessed I bought them at Options. I bought my Xtreme H4s there (they were also the cheapest for those, too) and got excellent service.

Hope this helps.
