Automatic Engine Mounts

Automatic Engine Mounts

My electronic engine mounts are shorted out and fried my ecu, I want to replace them with non electronic versions, who sells them? Will manual transmission versions work? Or do I need some custom ones?

I have a 2k auto with both frt & back elect. mounts and I installed manuals in both myself. The manuals are cheaper and stronger, I think I paid 95.00 each at dealer with discount. It took me about 3hrs to do myself. good luck

your best bet is to find a front engine mount bracket from a 95-03 maxima from a 5 or 6spd. Then buy some energy suspension polyurethane replacement bushings. Push the crappy rubber stock bushings out and replace them with the urethane ones. There is a guy on the 4th gen classifieds selling the brackets with the old mounts already pressed out.

The front mount on an auto is 4" diameter, you need a bracket with 3" diameter to hold the poly's.

My wife will most likely end up driving the car, so i want to avoid poly mounts, dont need the extra harshness. Just looking for manual replacement that won't give me issues with the ECU in the future.

Arthur which mounts did you buy to replace the automatic ones? I was under the impression that manual mounts from a manual transmission car are not a direct replacement?

what do the automatic engine mounts do. I see that there is one cable(sensor?) attached to 2 of the 4 mounts which makes it a dealer only item.... which makes them $150 a piece. the only guess i have is that its for the airbags.

another question i have is that i have to replace about 2 mounts. should i replace just all 4 of them? I'm guessing that they all go out at the same time since their under the same(?) stress.

I can't clearly answer why they are electronic or what that portion of the mount does.

In regards to the replacement interval, no they don't all go out at the same time. I have one that is cracked, the front, but the others are fine. I just haven't had the time to take care of it.

i think i just figured it out its the passenger side mount b/c the car was in an accident where the right fender and a few pulleys had to be replaced. so i'll just replace the passenger side mount. the car has 125k miles on it...

the 2 mounts are electric......fluid filled which hardens when you throw it in gear, softens in park. supposed to make the car idle smooth w/o any vibrations from the engine. they are a pita if you ask me.

So can someone let me know what manual mounts i need to order? I was just going to order mounts from a manual version of an 2001 maxima, will those work?

Let me throw this out...if the electric mounts fail, can't you just unplug them and leave them in? why replace them?

Word!! Thats what im thinking why even plug them in if they short your ecu!

Dont plug them in! I have a 2001 ecu for sale if yours fried!

SOoo..

A failed motor mnt sensor thingy fries the ECU????? Is this a crock or am I wrong? I would like to know more about this...ie. how to disconnect, etc because from what I read this can & does fry the ECU and I am not looking to put big money repairs because of something like this.

What, no fuses to protect the ECU? This does not make sense to me on what these cars cost new. I am astonished and would certainly like good input on these mounts and disconnecting to protect the ecu.

the electronic ones when they are unplugged are way too soft during driving. Plus mine are shot anyway. So i want to buy manual ones that are new.

Kaane, I sent you a pm, and i'll post her to. I removed my old frt & back elec. mounts with 150k miles and replaced them with stock maul. ones part #11270-40u03 $77.14 & 11320-40u01 $74.98 they bolted -up no problom. I did it about 6 mos ago no ecu problom, and my wife dos'nt know and I cant tell a differents at all ether

I have taken an auto front mount apart. The motor spins a little shaft which is connected to something inside the mount. when it spins it causes a piece to expand which causes the fluid to come under pressure. By squeezing the fluid the mount gets stiff. When the motor is not engaged the fluid is not under pressure and the mount goes soft.

I'll tell you a story. One of our 2003 Murano electronic mounts started making a "run run buzzing" noise after the car was turned off. Knowing that that can be a sound of the mounts starting to fail (from reading this site) I took it to the dealer.

The dealer told me that a replacement was $800 and he mentioned in passing that he's seen Maxima mounts go bad and that the first sign is that they run after the car is off.

Not wanting to pay $800.00 I asked if he could just unplug it. He said sure and that I won't notice any difference.

Sure enough, the Murano feels the same with the mount unplugged and I saved $800.

If it ever happens to my I30, I'm gonna just unplug them and see what happens.

I keep reading conflicting info on unplugging the mounts....some say no diff & others say it's too soft w/ them unplugged...

Somebody please give some definitive reason one way or the other please?

Also, any pic's on where these connectors are? Seems there are only 2 of them?

Did he unplug it while the car was running or was it turn off before unplugging the mounts?

Maybe you should turn the car on and then try unplugging them, that way they stay in the stiffend possition.
