Why would you downgrade HIDs to halogens?

see if you can adjust the bumper support brackets by bringing them a bit higher, maybe add some washers or spacers. Can you take a pic of how bad it looks?

just so you know 01s themselves have a little gap under the headlights (at least i do). Have to see pics to verify if its the same amount or more on an 02..

I believe the headlight support clips for the 00 - 01 headlights and the 02 - 03 headlights are different. I know that the 02 lights did not fit right in my 00 until I changed the clips.

Do the '01 headlights have that rubber insulation strip thing on the top of the headlamp like the '00s do?

My 01 does not. That rubber insulation may have been added per tsb: http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/NTB02-005.pdf

Does anyone else find that odd? What change (beside that rubber thing) did they make between '00 and '01 and why?

The change was not made from 2000 to 2001....but 2001 to 2002...2002 lenses are about 3/4 inch wider which leaves me with a HORRIABLE gap

My question is why do '01s have the problem but '00s don't? Why did they sell '01s without the seal?

Wrong. HIDs are not brighter with halogen housings, they just cause more glare. It's also illegal to do so, and gives you less usable light on the ground. You blind oncoming traffic and can't see where you are going. 00-01 housings, stick to halogens if not doing a projector retrofit.

Just stick to your 02 HID headlights. It's the best output you can get other than doing a projector retrofit. As mentioned earlier, putting HID's in the 01 AE headlights is a downgrade, not to mention illegal. Just get the housings painted black and they'll be better than the AE's. Plus you don't have to worry about the gap.

The reason for the housing change is NOT for a different look or brightness....In NY they are still stealing these lights and tearing up the car while doing so. In some cases they will rip out the grill cut horn wires pop hood and steal the bumper and headlights......I have no time for that nonsense

I don't get it. How much money do they get for these? You can buy HID kits online for like $50.

Ok, I got you. I didn't realize that this problem was still prevalent as the cost of HID technology has gone down considerably. But I suppose the value of OEM components remains high. GL with fixing the issue
