01 transmission flaring (vids)

the first video you can clearly see the tranny slip 16s into the clip...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NP2A...eature=channel

in the second run i didn't allow the revs to drop down so when it slipped, i pushed it a bit more and it kept climbing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lloqO...eature=channel

note: i wasn't flooring the car. It was more like a spirited run at best.

Am i looking at a rebuilt tranny later down the line? I'm assuming a VB mod isn't going to fix this issue...right?

Also, why does my engine sounds like its low on oil or something? Its loud for some reason. If this helps trouble shooting anything, my low oil sign stays on for a fraction of a second longer then the rest of lights at start up, before turning off.

out of all honesty, its better to post which gears ur having problems with and the issues behind it. i DO see the flare in the RPMs. but its hard to determine which gear its in.

have u checked ur oil lately????

That much of a slip is probably eating up your clutch packs pretty good. Not sure a shift kit will be enough to save the transmission at this point. You might want to have the solenoid operation checked and that line pressure is at the proper spec. Both to those issues can also cause flaring.

i recently had the transmission serviced and hardly noticed any metallic shavings stuck to the magnet (my car only has 64K miles on it too). So im still optimistic about the vb mod but you never know....I might give it a shot after having it checked out by the transmission guys. If they say it'll work, i'll go ahead and do it.

Looks very similar to what was going on with my 01 AT. Mine did exact same thing shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I also got a hard shift from 1st to 2nd if I was moderately accelerating. If barely on the throttle, it would slip but not very noticeably. Ever get stuck out of gear after a long drive on the highway at a relatively constant speed? Also had that happen to me multiple times. That all went on for about 6-8months, getting worse and worse until the last few weeks in which the engine was consistently revving a solid 1000rpm's between 2nd and 3rd gear....

...Finally the tranny bit the dust and I found myself on the highway with only 1st and 2nd gear.

Rebuild cost me $2250 installed. Took about 3 days. Don't go used, BAD idea.

02 se 1-2 gear video

just last week when I started my car, waited about 1 min and started driving, BAM car hops, transmision slips, don't know what to do with 1 and 2 gear. It only happens when is cold and you can see and feel it in mid rpms. car has 94k but tranny was changed on warranty about year ago when car was at 81k. Any ideas??

try to add more later on

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJqKwI-7pTI <-- car wasn't pulling, no power, almost had to bottom it and then bum!

I guess this is time to say goodbye to max

you might have more than one issue with your car. The transmission slipping when cold is one and probably a MAF related issue.

FTL... only 63k on your max too..

Mine has 60k, and my trans is starting to slip a little. but definately not flaring like that.. mine squeaks between 1st to 2nd.. prolly from running to redline and manually shifting

I have been having this for a long long time. I'm taknig the car to the mech on Wednesday for a check up, he will probably tell me to rebuild the tranny, so who knows... but in my case it does it like this:

normal driving between 2500 and 2800 rpms... all of sudden, the tranny looses grip and rpm's goes crazy making me to take the foot off the pedal. The tranny goes in a kicks in again.. no major issues.... but goes again and again. Some people say TCM, some Selenoids... and I'm tired of it, so I guess the mech will figure it out.. hopefully.

Sounds like the same problem as me. Your tranny is on its way out. Mine started at 100,000 miles and i finally lost 3rd and 4th gear. Ended up going junkyard for the new trans but stripped it down to make sure everything was alright with it. The new trans has 60,000 miles and seems to be alright for now. I put it in myself and i have a 100 day warrenty. Costed me $500 total, a lot cheaper than getting it done somewere.
