4th gen brakes= fifth gen?

Hi guys!

Just picked up an 02 SE last Friday and I'm loving it so far especially given that my other ride is a 4th gen! Anyway, I need to change the front rotors and pads on the 02 and I went on Ebay and most of the vendors have the 99-03 lumped together and this got me thinking- I have some front rotors and pads's that I had bought for my 4th gen but it turned out I didnt need them. Naturally, the question is, will these fit the 02? If they do it saves me about $90 bucks in parts.

I remember seeing something about the brakes getting updated on the 04's on but I'm thinking, the 02's a heavier car, no way they'd have the same brakes. And yes, i've searched already.

-4th gen rotors and 5th gen 00-01 rotors are 11" and exactly the same
-4th gen and 5th gen 00-01 (bigger piston) calipers are interchangable, but not the same and you would have to get the corresponding pads for each caliper
-5.5gen calipers fit on the 4th gen and 5th gen 00-01 with minor modification but no brackets needed.
-5.5gen rotors are 11.5"
-you can not use 4th gen/5th gen 00-01 calipers on a 5.5 because of the larger bolt holes.

What I would really like to see is someone get the g37 front calipers and rotors with brackets ($1025), 14" rotors and 4 piston calipers :yum: (and no you can't use the rears...don't ask)

Thanks Drunkie. Ya, I knew there was a 5th gen connection somewhere but wasnt sure. Like I'd mentioned, 02 feels like a much heavier car than the 4th which is what made me skeptical. on the g37 caliper's!!

For anyone else wondering, there's actually a link on the interchangeability under the Advanced Suspension/ Braking forum but its down at the moment. I think Irish or someone is trying to get those links back up. That should have a ton more info. HERE:

Yeah you can feel the weight when stopping, the amount of momentum these cars carry while trying to stop is alot for even 11.5" rotors. Which is why they upgraded to 12.6" rotors in the 6th gen

12.6" brakes wont fit under 16" rims right? Because I am going to need brake pads and I wanted to convert to a BBK right away.

They will not fit under 16" wheels.

I know this is old but nearly all of that info is wrong. 95-99 and 00-01 rotors are not the same. Same diameter yes, but 00-01 are thicker. Pads are the same fron 95-03. Im pretty sure the pistons are the same diameter from 95-01, but the caliper and torque member are thicker on the 00-01 to clear thicker rotor. 00-01 tourque members also use the larger bolts like the later VQ35 cars. So the 02-03 caliper would need the matching torque member and rotor to install on the VQ30 cars.

Bingo! Good, correct info.
