9003 Lightbulb question

So I gotta burnt out headlight (OEM) I remember putting in Silverstars but they burnt out after 6 months and then I threw the OEMs back in and one went down today.

So anyone have experience with the Sylvania Xtravision bulbs? I will never purchase a Silverstar again. Those Xtravision "seem" to be brighter and not burn out as fast. Any suggestions or thoughts? Oh I won't be doing HIDs on my 199k 00' Max with a dented bumper lol.

If I am not mistaken, the Xtravision and Silverstars produce comparable amounts of light, but the XtraVision light is not the typical "white" light that most are looking for.

I feel your pain with replacing Silverstars every 6months or so, but I would recommend you try the Silverstar Ultra...these are supposed to last 30% longer than the regular silverstars and they will still give you that nice, crisp white light.

Also, when you are changing any headlight bulb, its a good idea to use a papertowel or something else so that you dont touch the bulb. This can decrease the life of the bulb...I currently have one bulb that is about 40% brighter than the other bulb, and I distinctly remember accidently touching the bulb when I installed.

You are needing to replace the bulbs every 6 months because you're touching the actual bulb with your fingers which transfers oils to the bulb and causes it to burn out faster. Wear gloves and don't hold it by the glass

that was tough to understand due to some key punctuation, or lackthereof...and I'm just throwing this out there, but have you checked the bulbs themselves? How about the highbeams?

I believe it actually states on the back of the package itself that the higher output bulbs have a decreased life.

Dunno about you guys but up here in Canada, all bulbs bought at Canadian tire come with a one year warranty, meaning that if they burn out within a year, they will replace it on the spot for free so you can get a lifetime supply of bulbs from them. You should check to see if the automotive stores give any warranty on the bulbs, I'm pretty sure they should.

It also says to not handle the bulbs directly (glass part) as it will decrease the bulbs life...but yes higher output bulbs don't last as long, still 6 months is a very short lifespan for light bulbs, regardless of output...also I don't think autozone or advanced auto has a warranty on headlights.

Well actually I didn't touch the silverstars with my hands. You can easily install bulbs without ever touching the glass portion like I just did with that Xtravision by holding the bottom where the prongs stick out. Anyway, speaking of Silverstars the damn things burnt out quick and one of them melted my left headlight plug connector back in the day. So I had to buy some $18 thing at the dealer then switch back to stock. They were 55watts tooooo!

I am aware that the new Silverstar "ULTRAs" are much better
