CV Joint/Boots?

I know this has been covered since I remember reading threads on it, but when I searched nothing of any relivance came up. Im sorry if im missing something but I cannot find the threads on this....with that said...

I have had an intermitten pop when going over large dips and bumps and never really thought anything of it at all. I happened to take my car in for something to the stealer and they did their multi point vehicle inspection. Under it I was told that eventually I would need new CV Joint/Boots. I kinda just figured it was just the stealership being a stealership so Ive been ignoring it, but now im finding it hard to ignor.

When I go over larger bumps or dips the popping/clunk comes out and now I feel like I can feel it through the steering wheel. This is starting to get me pretty nervous being that I drive my car everyday on the highway at highway speeds.

Does this sound like it is a CV joint/Boots problem? Is it dangerous for me to contiue driving with it like this? Help is greatly appreciated as always

thanks

Bad CV joints will click when making a sharp turn. Especially if you give it some gas with the wheel all the way turned. You can check it out at very slow speeds like in a parking lot.

The boots are either torn ot they're not. You can inspect them from under the car.

Don't bother re-booting axles. Just get Raxles replacement axles and be done with it. You won't be disappointed.

I checked the boots and their not torn so and it doesnt click at sharp turns at any speed. It only happens when going over dips in the road. Based off of my searches, im thinking its the strut mount. It seems to do it when the spring compresses and pushes upward on the mount. does this sound right?

Not really because even when the car is standing still the mounts are still under compression/load.

I'd check sway bar links, ball joints, motor mounts, possibly inner/outer tie rod ends.

interesting you say motor mounts because I do know for a fact that my front electric mount is bad. Its hopefully being replaced this weekend. If that cured it id be very happy.

If it is the control arm bushings would you feel the clunk through the steering wheel? What i mean is when I go over the bump or dip, I can feel something loose for a split second or until the car recovers from the bump.

Since you say steering wheel again, I still believe it might be tie rod ends.
