Has anyone ever had any good or bad experiences buying a car from either Habberstad Nissan or Smithtown Nissan in Long Island, NY. I'd like to know how they are since I'm thinking of maybe purchasing a 2001 Maxima from them.

I bought my car from Oyster Bay Nissan. Which is now called Legend Nissan (oyster bay changed owners and there name)
The manager there was the son of my moms friend.
He was very helpful but he went to a different dealership
further west. His brother bought a dealership there.
I think he is the manager there now.. Very nice guy and he gave me a good deal. Stephen Meltcher. It might be worth asking around for him..

Anthony also from oyster bay now at Smithtown.(last time i was there he had a shaved head) not sure of his last name.
He is in his mid to late 20's. He signed my deal as the salesmen, but Stephen gave him the ok on the numbers. So I dont know if he would be able to do as well with the numbers being that he is only a salesmen and not a manager.
Good luck and keep me posted.
Tell them Howie sent you.

I tried Smithsown 25 years ago - service department sucked then - not really relevant now. I can definitely say STAY AWAY FROM NISSAN 112!!! Finance lies and service is incompetent and parts also lies!

I've dealt with both dealerships.. (Habberstadt and Smithtown)

First off is Smithtown.. I tried to buy an 1999 Altima and had negotiated a price. I thought about the purchase overnight and went back the next day.. met with the same salesman.. verified the price/deal .. we had filled out the buy order the previous night and it was signed by everyone. Everything looked excellent.. then.. I went to the "money" guy to negotiate a loan.. little did I know that he was the warranty guy as well.. I said "I'd like to get a 5 year loan through you with xxx down" .. he said "Ok and you will take the extended warranty as well" .. "No thank you" .. well then he comes out with "This deal is not valid w/out the warranty"

It just got worse from there.. the end result was the general manager ripping up the signed purchase order, showing me the torn up pieces and saying the car would have to be priced $1000 more.

Needless to say.. please don't go to SmithTown as they were the worst/underhanded/slimey people to deal with.. and I don't think they have changed much in a year.

As for Habberstadt.. the complete opposite.
My salesman (who unfortunatly recently moved on to a different job, or I would reccomend him) was incredibly courteous and reasonable. I visited and did a number of test drives before buying, and there was no pressure placed on me by anyone on their staff. When it came time to purchase the car, I had done my research and walked away with my fully loaded SE 5 speed for the dealer invoice price (which 7 months ago was pretty darn good) .. the finance woman wasn't sleazy (ok.. she tried all her sales tricks.. but that level was expected) .. all said and done.. bought/financed/driven away the same day.

I have also had good experiences with Habberstadt's service department.. I've done every oil change there and the 7500 mile "lets look at things" tune up.. In my opinion, they are a very competent service department with good customer service skills. No complaints.

So to sum up: Go to Habberstadt.

Oh.. I did not like the Hempstead dealer either.. as the salesman backed the Maxima he was trying to sell me into a Pathfinder without a care and still tried to sell me the exact same car.

I would have punched the GM in his face, then walked out of the dealership!!!

You did the right thing bry2kse. By the way, trying to sell you an extended with a loan is actually against the law. The dealership can get in trouble. Check out the site http://www.carbuyingtips.com. It lists this as one of the top 10 car dealer scams.
What a bunch of jerks at smithtowm nissan. Thanks for the info.

Think I remembered the dealer

The guy Steve M. I mentioned in the last
post might work at the 5 towns dealership
now. I'm not even sure what it is but
it rang a bell all of a sudden.
Give it a shot.
